Boxing looks more like a game than a fight. MMA also has to outlaw some things (biting, gouging, etc), but MMA more closely resembles a fight, and Boxing is dying out in popularity. I have no interest in seeing something that is so severely limited as boxing with those enormous pillows on their fists. It is also boxing that is simpler and less complicated, not MMA, they don't even allow you to attack the lead leg with leg kicks. Your analogy of comparing Arena Football to the NFL makes more sense in the reverse.

Boxing gloves were invented to increase knockouts by protecting hands from being broken.

Yeah, he's awful. Everyone is aware of this including Ronda. According to Ronda's mom, superstition is the only reason Tarverdyan is Ronda's coach.

I would be shocked if he remains her coach after this fight.

Jackson and Winkeljohn may be the two best MMA coaches in the world right now. If you are willing to live in Albuquerque, any new young talented fighter should go with them.

Nah. Matt Hume and it's not even close. As much as I may dislike some of the Duane Bang Ludwig's recent antics, he's also up there.

Reaction in ABQ, the guys near the camera are some of Holly's teammates at Greg Jackson's gym, including Cowboy Cerrone. The city is apparently planning a parade when Holly gets back from Australia.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk broke her hand in the fight, probably early in the fight and needs surgery. That didn't stop her from breaking the record for significant strikes in a championship fight, but it makes more sense why she started throwing a lot more kicks than normal and started conservatively fighting for a decision in the last couple rounds. The break is in a different spot than the last time she broke her hand.

She ended up with two good opportunities, one of them on the ground, but Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn had Holly trained and coached up so brilliantly that Ronda couldn't pull off her armbar.

They were invented to keep boxers from breaking their hands as punching bone tended to break your hands. Most boxing matches before the invention of gloves mainly consisted of body shots.

With protected hands striking the head become much more feasible.
