To your pt re: Kennedy, yes he's looked very good second half. He did however get torched for like 6 straight weeks when we started going into the tank. Like Kendrys, all those earlier struggles count on the record too.

By "six straight weeks" do you mean "the first two weeks in June?"

Because that's really the only period where he was consistently bad, if you review game logs.

The rest of his season is really good starts sandwiched around a bad start here and there.

FIP is not he only peripheral stay out there, you know? And it isn't perfect - far from it.

Kennedy has great K/IP and K/BB indicators, too, and does a good job limiting base runners in general.

He's not an ace, but suggesting he hasn't had a good year because one statistic - that assigns too much importance to HRs - ranks him 71st of 81 is intellectually empty.

It's a bit misleading in that there are only 81 qualifiers which is a little less than 3 per team, so the sample is limited only to guys good enough to keep getting starts. He very likely is one of the top 90 pitchers in all of MLB, relievers included.

I am simply pointing out that he does walk guys and he gives up a lot of dingers, 2 traits that outweigh the high K totals. I give him credit for being so durable - the broadcast said he's 3rd last five seasons on starts behind only Shields and Scherzer.

Thanks for adding the clarifying context.

I'll add that Kennedy's walk rate is very average - fewer than 3/9 is solid.

Although we wanted a playoff team again, this has been one of the better seasons in our history (esp recent history). All time we have a .485 win % or a 79-83 equivalent. We could go 5-14 to match that.

If we go 10-9, which is very doable with our schedule, that gets us to 84 wins. We've only done that 4x since 1990 (27 seasons) so this year has to be considered a success if we do that. We should likely have a winning season next year too and if so that would be 5 straight. That hasn't happened since 1976-1980 which was our glory run. That was also the last time we had even 4 straight winning seasons.

OT, but the wife and I and a couple of friends are headed up Sunday for the game. Looks like LC's BBQ is about the only decent place to eat near the K?

Yeah, good points.

That 20-yr run from 1992 to 2012 was titanic-sized awful.

It's amazing they stayed in the hunt as long as they did this year with all the injuries and obstacles they had to overcome. It's unfathomably hard to expect to make a championship run three years in a row, in any sport. Proud of these guys.

And I still loved them. I mean, they stunk, but we always had hope. Right?!?!

Loved them? Yes. Had hope for them? Not even.

It was a game as to if the Royals could remain relevant until the beginning of training camp. They rarely made it that long, if they ever did. 2003 might be the only exception.

1995 and on. The 1994 team was a fun and winning one.

Wish we had that pitching staff now.

I dunno, they brought Rob Neyer to his knees.

Actually even the 95 team was in the wild card mix until September. They were a completely different team than 94 but they were competitive.

Bowser 09-13-2016 12:12 PM

How many games were the Royals leading the Central by in '94 when the strike brought everything to an end, anyway?
