I suppose the same could be said from the MU side as well.

Withey scares me more than anyone. Robinson's going to get his, but Ratliffe should be able to hold his own. Mizzou has the edge at guard, but having a 7' behind Robinson is a weapon. Should be interesting to see who guards English, though.

If English calls for the best perimeter defender on the team, it's going to be Travis Releford.

I would love for Travis Releford to be guarding Kim English.

1) It means KU is playing "small."
2) Kim English is not Mizzou's best perimeter player (Mike Denmon, Mike Dixon, Phil Pressey are all superior)

It will be interesting to see who Self assigns where. Robinson on English probably makes sense than Withey on English. The latter would equal a big game for Kimmie, with Withey quickly headed to the bench in foul trouble.

Also think the key matchup is going to be Taylor on Pressey. Can Taylor keep Pressey out of the lane? Not sure, but that would really slow Mizzou's offense...

I think Rele marks Denmon. Taylor will guard Phil Pressey. Robinson will likely guard Ratliffe. That means Withey either guards English or Matt Pressey, so I think he draws English.

If Mizzou can hit threes, Mizzou wins. If not, Kansas wins.

I don't think we need to hit a bunch of threes to win. For example, if we can penetrate and force a lot of contact with Withey, the foul calls will probably go MU's way. Withey gets in foul trouble, and MU has a much easier time scoring in the paint.

The good thing about this team is that they are playing very well without depending on the three.

mnchiefsguy 01-23-2012 12:26 PM

I think Mizzou needs to hit some threes, but not necessarily lights out (although that would be great)...I also think Mizzou needs to draw some fouls and get to the line. Mizzou is a much better free throw shooting team than kansas, and that could be a huge advantage down the stretch.

If Ratliffe gets in foul trouble it would be tough for the Tigers.

I think the Taylor vs Pressey matchup will be fun to watch. I'm not sure either one can keep the other out of the lane. I actually would't be surprised to see Elijah guard Denmon

Agreed. If we are horrible from 3 it will be tough but I dont think we really have to be hot or anything. If we can limit our foul trouble I feel pretty good. If not it could go quite bad.

Just bought my MU-KU tix on StubHub. Prices are getting out of hand. Well over $200 for any decent seat in the upper level.

Mizzou Athletics
@mutigersdotcom

With today's ranking, #Mizzou becomes fourth school in last four years to place both its FB and MBB teams in top 2 of polls.

Who are the others, Ohio State, Florida and Kansas?

Even that doesn't seem right. We were #1 in 2007, but that was 5 seasons ago. When were we #2 since then? We didn't get that high in 2008, did we?

phisherman 01-23-2012 04:03 PM

When was the KU football team ranked #2 in the polls? Weren't they #7 during their Orange Bowl year?

I think they're counting sport seasons and not calendar years. I could be wrong.
