Ive brushed on this before

What do you want to do with Holland? Guy is solid as nails and has great stuff.

Throw him in the rotation or let him be the nails bullpen guy.

The biggest improvement this team made last year was Perez. I know it sounds silly in the light of things but I think he is going to be a monster catcher and we sorely, sorely need that. This team picked it up when he came up. He brought life to the team defensively.

Escobar's bat and Giovatella are going to be difference makers both offensively and defensively. We know Escobar is hands down the best defensive SS in the game today but he has to continue hitting at that .250+ level.

Bottom line is, we get just decent pitching I think we can now play to win the 7-4 games as opposed to the 3-1 games.

Yeah, I'm pumped about our current team. Absolutely agree about Perez. He changes the game so much because of defense. We're so much stronger up the middle right now that it's sick.

I'd say keep him in the pen and move Crowe into the rotation. At least at first. We are going to need a solid pen this year. No sense in experimenting. We drafted Crowe to be a starter so let him start. Let Holland and Soria work the pen.

Heres to Soria not sucking next season

*sighs*

Johnny G. is definitely the best 2nd baseman we have had in a long time. He just needs to continue improving and focus on defense 1st and bat 2nd. Though he has a good bat. Much better than Avilles or that other white guy we had the last few years.

Perez.....Perez.....Perez...what can you say about a solid catcher if not a potentially great catcher? Oh yes, he has the arm to shoot guys whereever they stand. He is great at keeping the ball in front of him. But he has fire. He plays like a little leaguer at heart. Fired up! And unlike our last 2 decades worth of catchers, he can ****ing hit. He can hit for power. And for a big guy he isn't exactly slow on the basepaths.

I think we fell into him by accident but whatever it takes. I am content with him and Pena as our catchers. Pena isn't the best defensively but he can come through in the clutch at the plate and will go yard if given the chance.

Even when Escobar was struggling to get to .200, I was saying that I liked his swing and that I was confident that he would hit. I was saying that it looked like his bat was too light or something because his swing was good, if a little too long, but the ball came off like he was swinging a yardstick. He seems to have fixed that issue, so I'm confident that he'll hit .250+.

Gio is another matter entirely. I see him as Mike Aviles part 2. He would be a fine utility guy and pinch hitter, but I don't want to trot him out there 150 times at 2B.

Eventually, you need starters. We've had great middle relievers for years with nothing to show for it. I'm willing to risk "ruining" a great middle reliever in order to see if he can be a stud in the rotation.

Perez's bat was more advanced than I was expecting. Plus, his swing was short and compact, which suggests that he should be able to sustain success.

Could be such a fun team to watch in the coming years.

Just woke up and Saw Cabrera for Sanchez:thumb:

Why down on Johny G.? I think he will do good. Let him play. He has good range and a decent bat.

I said all season that Escobar's bat would come around as well. I saw him in Az. I saw him hit the ball hard. Seitzer did good bringing him around on shortening his swing. But I still think he has to hit .250. If he hits .200 it has to be productive as in moving runners or Sac Flys. He can't strike out or poke one back to the mound like he did early.

By calling him up when we did. Just how sports go. You call him up at the beginnng of a season and maybe he doesn't get the hot start like he did?

That's all I mean. We hadn't planned on calling him up...I never once saw him play in spring training unless it was late in a game and then I don't remember. then we go and sign Treanor the day before the season starts. They had 2-3 guys ahead of Perez at the beginning of the season.

We did not fall into Perez. He was a well-regarded prospect within the organization, but the Royals under Moore don't rush their bats to the majors. Perez forced the organization's hand by destroying AA and AAA despite his youth.

DeezNutz 11-07-2011 07:26 PM

The Royals were actually somewhat patient with Perez because his glove was supposedly ML ready for the last season and a half.
