A month after trading hurlers Jake Odorizzi and Mike Montgomery to the Rays as part of the deal that brought James Shields and Wade Davis to Kansas City, the Royals added some pitching depth on Thursday, signing right-hander Blaine Boyer to a Minor League contract for 2013.

Boyer, 31, was drafted by Atlanta in the third round of the 2000 Draft and went 9-14 with a 4.81 ERA in his 233 appearances with the Braves, Cardinals, D-backs and Mets during the 2005-09 seasons. The groundball specialist has allowed just 17 homers in 234 innings pitched.

The Royals plan to announce the club's Major League camp non-roster invitees at a later date.

Looked around at about 80 or so HOF ballots, if thats a representative sample, its depressing. I have to agree with Rany, the best possible outcome might be no one elected this year.

It doesn't look like Bagwell's getting in this year, the only one who might is Jack Morris, and he does not deserve it.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Red Sox, Rays, Nationals and Royals were all in attendance to watch Javier Vazquez in his Puerto Rican Winter League debut on Friday.
By all accounts, Vazquez looked very sharp during the outing. He pitched six shutout innings, allowing just three singles and no walks while racking up four strikeouts. His velocity sat consistently at 93 mph, touching as high as 95, and he maintained good command of the strike zone. Interest in the veteran right-hander should heat up after this terrific showing.

THIS WOULD EXCITE ME GREATLY.

Don't think we have the money though.

Javier Vazquez!

Of course we have the money. The question is whether Glass will spend it.

(Note: not really bitching about payroll because it is at a respectable level.)

Man I thought I was gonna read "Royals trade Frenchy for Mike Trout"!!! Best sports day EVER!!!

Vazquez would be an excellent one-year signing. Just an excellent pick-up.

Shields
Guthrie
Santana
Vazquez
Davis

That would be an excellent rotation upgrade. I mean... I was beating the drum to bring in three new guys for the rotation this offseason. If they compeletely make-over the rotation... wow.

SnakeXJones 01-05-2013 08:23 AM

Def would love to get him on a one year deal

You know you are a deprived sports fan when optimism is all you have every offseason.

But for once, please be right!
