And Wainwright made that '06 pen look pretty ****ing decent.

Suppan got the most out of his talent, that's for sure, but his career peripherals (4.96 K/9, 3.07 BB/9, 1.19 HR/9) aren't pretty. At least he generally kept the ball on the ground, though.

Jeff Weaver was a complete shitbag outside of his early Detroit years.

Am I forgetting, or was the Cardinal bullpen not a ****ing disaster at the beginning of the season? Furthermore, interviewers were still joking with Motte about not being known as TLR's "closer," which generally means that you don't have one.

1) It was, or this team probably wins 100 games
2) He's not the closer b/c TLR is superstitious and doesn't want to call him that

We lost a ****ton of games early in the year b/c TLR kept trotting out Ryan Franklin and Miguel Batista

Much of Suppan's "prime" was with the Royals, so my assessment is largely clouded by how Royals fans discussed and regarded him.

Weaver had talent but ten-cent head, which was always his primary failing.

Pretty much just resign Punto and Furcal, get rid of Theriot and Skip can go(though, I think it would be okay if he's back, as long as he isn't getting a shit load of starts).

Never had a chance to string together a run of ABs in the bigs. He may be a AAAA player, but he probably should play a more vital utility role.

Can anyone explain to me why runners slide into first besides avoiding a tag? Is the concept of it slowing you down mean nothing? It really blows my mind.

If you are able to see, on a ball hit to first, that the pitcher is not covering and the 1B will have to try to tag you, then sliding will make you harder to tag.

Beyond that, you should almost always slide feet first instead of head-first because the couple microseconds aren't worth an injury, but if its the playoffs, then slide head first all day.

Take away Batista and Franklin, this team would have won 100 games.

The bullpen wasn't bad. Just guys being used in situations where they shouldn't have been.
