Am I forgetting, or was the Cardinal bullpen not a ****ing disaster at the beginning of the season? Furthermore, interviewers were still joking with Motte about not being known as TLR's "closer," which generally means that you don't have one.

That might have been because they had two guys that shouldn't be in the majors in Brian Tallet and Trever Miller and replaced them with two good relievers, Dotel and Rzep.

Tallet and Miller each blew a game for the Jays in August before being released.

I agree with the first part. For the second I wasn't as much comparing sliding head first to feet, just sliding at all into first. Running straight through is faster. The only reason to slide into a base is because its faster to slide then slow down to a stop. With a base you can run through, a slide is only worth it to avoid a tag. Otherwise running through is faster.

Well when you have two pitchers pretty much standing out there pumping in batting practice it will seem to last forever.
