Nice.

I bet you're an honorable man in real life, too.

Wait. So any asshole can say whatever they want to me in a PM and I'm supposed to keep it to myself because of some message board honor ideology?

That's ridiculous. That's persons choice to use PM is out of their personal desire to keep it private. I don't automatically agree to that just because it landed in my inbox.

Well, I can't speak for you but I've received thousands of PM's since 2000 and I've never shared the contents with anyone in the forum. I've had a fair share of nasty PM's and I wouldn't share those, either.

Private. Message.

I cannot disagree with this take. However I would ask what exactly is the point in sharing these messages in the open forum?

I didn't say that. If it's abusive, harassing, or breaking the rules then by all means report it or out them. But otherwise it's private, yes.

I have no idea.

All I'm saying is that I don't agree to some vow of secrecy just because some dickbag sends me a PM.

I see it like this: if its so sacred, you better damn sure know who you're sending it to.

The idea that I can say whatever the **** I want to anyone in a pm and it won't be revealed because of some BB man code is ridiculous. It's a one-sided transaction. Only one half chooses to make it private.

Phobia 08-22-2012 05:52 PM

You kind of agreed to it when you enabled private messaging when you signed up afaic. It's not called "Optionally Public Message".

Like I said I cannot disagree with your thought process here. I was just wondering what it accomplishes to bring it all out in the open. Aside from threads and days of drama-queens running rampant on the board, I see no value in it. Actually I see no value in that other than some adolescent amusement during the slow periods.

That is actually a great point. I now have to disagree with jspchief's reasoning.

Private. Message.

Since I have set it up that I no longer receive PMs from the people I don't like, this is no longer an issue for me. But prior to that, I did do it in the past on a couple of occasions, both of which were personal threats. Were that not the case, however, I absolutely don't feel honor bound to respect the privacy of some prick I don't like anyway who is sending me hateful messages. I certainly wouldn't have any expectation of privacy if I did it, but again, that's not my style. As everyone is well aware, I fight out in the open. And if a shitty PM can get some douche banned and improve my CP experience, well, I'll air it out in a heartbeat. I'm very much an "end justifies the means" type.

If someone doesn't rate honorable behavior, they won't get it.

That's not true. I saw one by Ravishing Rick Rude the other day that made me laugh.

This.

If someone send a douchey message, honor goes out the window.
