Except most of the fan base is HAPPY. The reaction of the fan base is only going to reinforce Clark's opinion that they are going in the right direction.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'd rather they just keep Cassel.

We'll be lucky if they do that. Going by history, we're still a few years away from drafting another 3rd-7th round QB.

The only positive on this whole deal is that mathematically we would still have a shot at winning a Super Bowl with Alex Smith, mainly because of his past draft position. There has been some quarterbacks win with not their orginal team but the chances are pretty slim. Basically Smith would have to turn into Jim Plunkett or Len Dawson.
