hey DaFace, What type/brand server juices this puppy? I've always wondered this.

There is no "brand" it's a linux server if that is what you are asking....

I don't know for sure - I don't believe it's branded. It's hosted by http://www.theplanet.com/ for what that's worth.

EDIT: It must be a Dell server. Here are the specs:

Code:

Generic        2048 MB
Generic        2048 MB
Intel        1.86 GHz 1066FSB - Conroe
Maxtor        250GB:SATA:7200RPM
Unknown        Onboard
Dell        Single socket 1067FSB - Quad Core Capable

Probably a PowerEdge. That's cool, just wondering.

In all of the fun with the server move, I forgot all about updating the graph last month. So, here's the latest:

http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/5...ts20101207.png

Not much of a change from the overall trend of the year. Our posts are down a bit from last year, though we're still well above the 2008 and prior numbers. Interestingly, our average daily users is actually up this year (higher than every year except 2007), which basically means that we've got more people logging in, but they're reading more than they're posting. The server issues could be a small part of that, but the overall trend wouldn't be that severely affected by the server.

Anyway, we'll probably end up at around 900k posts for the year, give or take a few thousand.

We should kick it into gear so we can hit 1 Mil.

DaFace, did CP reach 1,000,000 million posts in 2010?

DaFace 05-04-2011 09:08 PM

Heh...I'd kind of slacked off on this thread. Oh well.

Anyway, we ended up with 912,205 posts for 2010. We're also trending downward this year as well, as shown in the current chart:

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/4421/aprilstats.png

Interestingly, we have a higher daily active users average this year than we ever have. That may be a seasonality thing (summer months are slow), but it could also mean that we've got a lot of lurkers these days.

Anyway, that's what I got.

BossChief's posts over on the Coalition made me remember that I haven't updated this in a while. So just in case anyone cares...

Looks like we're replicating last year's pace for the most part. We were a little slower in the offseason this year with no football to talk about, but we've caught up recently. Still, 2009 looks to have been a major anomaly. Apparently crappy teams beget a lot of discussion.

Yeah, probably true. The interesting thing about 2009 is that it was actually lower than 2010 in terms of the number of people who were logging in every day (870 vs. 888). So it wasn't that we had more PEOPLE here so much as it was that we had more DISCUSSION going on.

We're running at 860 at the moment for this year, but that's increasing since we're in the season at the moment.

Let me go ahead and apologize for all the braindead n00bs that are gonna show up over the coming months.

It should make it fun to blast away the the influx, though.

Eh, whatever. It's entirely possible to be a n00b here and get along just fine. Hell, I became an admin here after only being around for 2 years. It's just people who are 1) are not very objective and 2) aren't humble that take a lot of abuse.
