Why not let Crow pitch the 8th and if he gets in trouble, bring Herrerea. If he clears the 8th, bring Holland. If Holland starts to stink up the 9th then you have Herrera in reserve. But nooooooo....

Yeah, it's generally a good idea to leave your good pitchers (Herrerea) on the bench "in reserve." We should also leave Gordon on the bench in reserve so he can come in and save the day when needed offensively.

Royals suck too much to act like they can just piss away games and not have it effect any chance they have at being competitive in the 2nd half of the season.

win any game you can, whenever you can and just maybe we won't be out of it by the break.

Does anyone know why Holland was chosen the closer and not Herrera.

He is more of a prototypical closer than Holland.

Guys, the only blame in this game is Holland. Nothing Yost could have done given the time needed to warm up somebody in the pen. Collins wasn't going to pitch tonight, he threw 2 innings yesterday, so you can't argue we should have started him in the inning.

I'm the stick in the mud on this stuff. I'd much rather have my three best relievers letting it rip for one inning a night than let a guy sit for 10 minutes then come back out with subpar stuff. Unless you've got Rivera in your pen. Hillman used to do that stuff.. he'd bring Soria in to pitch part of the 8th inning, then wonder why he didn't have his best stuff and blow the save in the 9th. Drove me nuts.

But I also believe that some pitchers don't react well to the pressure of the 9th inning sometimes either... which admittedly goes against the sabermetric thinking that all these guys are robots and interchangeable pieces. Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't... really depends on the mental makeup of the person.

Well, at least his look would match his true mental state.

Mother****erJones 04-06-2013 08:17 PM

Closers blow games. Rivera is the ****ing exception, he's superhuman.

Can't fight stupid with stupid.

Using current knowledge of how using only one guy as a closer is dumb coupled with picking a lefty who has better success versus right handers to face a lefty as the final conclusion is at least pretty funny.

tk13 04-06-2013 08:17 PM

Herrera is ridiculous... but it's not like Holland is swiss cheese. Holland has vicious stuff. It's not like we've got Doug Jones closing out there. Two years ago he was almost unhittable.

Holland throws mid to high 90's with an out pitch slider. He's got closer stuff. Guy had 91 K's in 67 innings last year.

Hmmm....an 11 point lead. Sound familiar???

Royals suckered me in to watching them again. :banghead:

Every time I get interest they drive me crazy. How does your supposed really good close walk three straight batters to start the inning?
