The Panthers obviously don't feel the cupboard is bare. They are taking the posture of a team that needs a new head coach and a QB, a moderate retooling, but will be able to compete before its young stars are out of their prime, which is why they don't want to trade them.

Your chances of finding a great pass rusher in the 1st round even with 2 picks are not great. It doesn't make sense to trade a proven pass rusher at all unless he's about to age out.

Brian Burns isn't 2 first round picks good...this way you'll just miss the window of having money when you have a young QB so it's the Charger model.

The problem though is good luck hitting on that QB if you're not tearing it down so you pick like 7th.

Considering how the Rams are in a complete spiral downward as well, you know those picks will probably be in the top 15.
