Pass.

Acquiring Gio would be huge in my opinion. I would love to see that.

Agree, even if it worked out perfectly. At his best, Shields still isn't an ace, Cy Young-type of pitcher.

I would consider moving Myers in a package to get a true stud: someone in the Felix, Kershaw, Lincecum tier. But since that is unlikely to happen, I am content to hold on to Myers and see if he can develop into a Ryan Braun/Chipper Jones type of hitter.

Exactly. Shields shouldn't be enough to get Myers.

We should get Frank White to start helping Giavotella with his defense.

Oh, wait....

Buster Olney is reporting that DM has basically ruled out trading Moose, Hosmer, or Myers.

Good.

Dr. Johnny Fever 12-07-2011 10:38 AM

Double good

If GMDM trades Hosmer for anything less than Andrew Luck I'm done with the royals.

What about a Tim Tebow?

I don't think some of you realize how good Shields has been? He was 3rd in the Cy Young voting this season, had a 2.84 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, struck out 225 fing batters in 249 innings. He's thrown at least 203 innings over the last five years. He had 11 complete games this year, with four of those shutouts.

He wasn't good last year, but he was pretty solid the three years before that. Everyone is lusting after Gio, but Shields is in that same boat. I still wouldn't do the proposed deal, but it's not like Shields is Luke Hochever.

I just don't think trading Myers is the answer for anything. Sure he may end up a bust but it just seems like he has all the right tools to be something special. I mean we're basically just renting Frenchy until Myers is ready and then we are pretty much set (except for maybe 2B). Plus, I think we have enough ammo such as Robinson, Lamb or Montgomery to still pull off something for a pretty good pitcher. Man it feels great to be sitting in this position!

So you wouldn't be willing to trade a prospect that may never amount to anything, and is at best projected as a .300 w\ 20 HR hitter for an already established and proven ace pitcher at the major league level that is reasonably affordable, young (hasn't turned 30 yet), and durrable?

I would.. in a heartbeat.

gblowfish 12-07-2011 11:52 AM

The Royals have made their one trade for the year with the Melky to SF deal. They'll sit pat like they always do, and come up short by two starters to seriously compete this year.

Hope I'm wrong.
