The answer is to trade Hosmer for a 2B/OF + young up & coming SP. Cuthbert or Dozier can play 1B and likely have within .030 OPS of Hosmer's while perhaps providing better defense.

Situations in which the Royals trade Hosmer: 1) they decide to fire sale this winter rather than making another run 2) they are way out of the race in July 2017. They're not going to trade any of the core guys, IMO. And he would be the last one they would move if they did. The return would also be unlikely to be high enough. Andrew McCutchen is on the block it appears. He is signed through 2018. The only way I can think of for us would be swap of Cain for McCutchen.

Hosmer is pretty damn good in the playoffs. You just have to weather his slumps to get there.

They aren't making any major moves this offseason. They will give this group 1 last run for glory, as they should
