@McCulloughStar: As Fire Swept Clean The Earth Lineup: Escobar 6, Moustakas 5, Cain 8, Hosmer 3, Morales DH, Perez 2, Infante 4, Rios 9, Dyson 7, Ventura 1.

Hootie 07-20-2015 02:21 PM

I guess Bruce would fit into our lineup ok ... but I really wouldn't be too keen on giving up much for him. I don't think he's that great. I'd rather see Rios, you know, play to his ability then waste prospects on Jay Bruce, another left handed bat, who is basically Kendrys Morales (who has been pretty overrated by this board this year for as decent as he's been)

Hootie 07-20-2015 02:23 PM

now if Cueto and Bruce come in a package together ... then I'd be willing to part with some actual pieces

I would think that's the goal since we have been linked to both.

What if Milwaukee kept their prospects?

Escobar
Gomez
Cain
Braun
Ar Ramirez
LuCroy
Lind
Lawrie

That would be one of the better lineups in all MLB. Of course, the Greinke/Marcum trades did get them to the NLCS in 2011

Bruce would be a solid addition for the Royals, IMO.

He's not a guy who's going to be a huge difference maker on his own, but he's generally been an above-average offensive player and a neutral defender.

Good power and good OBP skills... he'd actually be a very good fit offensively for KC. You could slide him into the 6 spot and get very similar offensive production while Gordon is out.

Might be a smaller price than trading for Cueto, too, though it's hard to say (you're buying 1.5 pretty reasonable years plus a team option for a second full year).

Any concerns about how much of Bruce's power will translate to the K? Career home/road SLG split of .510/.425.

Huge concern. I'm not that interested, personally

FWIW, here are Bruce's homers this year. The park overlay is Kauffman Stadium. Not sure how much this means, but it looks like three of Bruce's homers elsewhere would be in play at Kauffman. Has to certainly help Bruce that he plays in Cincinnati.

EDIT:
In 2014, he wouldn't have had any of his hr's taken away from KS:

Interesting. Thanks.

Of course, we're talking a small sample size of 14 balls, and only about 5 or 6 look like no-brainer HRs. About another 4 or 5 of those are just over the wall, it makes you want to factor in stuff like atmospheric effects. Could wind/humidity/temp/altitude at the K push those back? Because then you're looking at him maybe losing half his HR total.

Yeah I have no idea. Just thought it was an interesting graphic, as I was looking at it when you posted the question. Please hold.. *refers to Duncan*

Finnegan, Almonte, and Cuthbert for Bruce and Cueto. Now!

Well, that IS the important thing after all: go all-in for the current season, and don't worry about any future seasons. /Hootie and others

The homerun overlay is a cool feature, but it doesn't make up for altitude, prevailing winds during the time of the year, and other factors.
