It's an interesting concept. They need to add a quality bat with pop, minimum, in addition to bringing back Moustakas. Walker qualifies -he's been about 15 percent better than average offensively over his career. He's a switch hitter. He has pop. But... He's also fairly likely to draw a qualifying offer from the Mets and is 31. He has been a good OBP guy, which should age pretty well, but the length of the contract may be more than KC is comfortable with (or should be). Defensively, he has been basically league average at 2B. How they think that holds up would be critical. I'm in favor of bringing back Morales, but Walker is an interesting alternative who probably is less risky. I think Merrifield could give you decent production as an everyday 2B if the Royals don't go that route. Plus defense at 2B (probably about a 1-win defender if playing 2B full time), with a bat that could do .280/.320/.400 pretty easily. Pair that with 30 SB, and that's a pretty useable player. The more I look at the DH market, the more I think Morales will be allowed to walk.
Carlos Beltran, Napoli, Moss, Pedro Alvarez, Encarnacion, Carlos Santana... Even Matt Holliday could be a cheap DH option. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I had a weird notion that Holliday would wind up being talked about as a DH.

Holliday would be a typical Dayton Moore sign. A great clubhouse guy who can provide a solid bat at DH. He could easily play a game in the outfield or 1B if need be too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Isn't the QO this year almost 18 million? Wouldn't imagine alot of teams would be extending one of those. |

Oh, no guarantees. And hard to say, since he was so great, then so bad, thence try good... In three pretty distinct stretches. QO is $17.1 million. There won't be as many as last year, but Walker is probably in line for something between the Zobrist and Gordon contracts (4 years, $60 million). That's a big guarantee to walk away from, and he's unlikely to improve his stock with one more season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
White Sox add moar power to their front office by hiring Chris Getz as Director of Player Development.

In news that's important to the Royals: the Reds just finished renegotiating their TV deal with Fox Sports.
Official terms have not been released, but it's expected to be an increase from the $30 million/year they're currently pulling down. Cincinnati is a smaller market than KC (32) and has more regional competition/less outside the metro reach. Should be a good comparison/benchmark for what KC can expect in its new deal. I would like to see Beltran go out a Royal and a winner.
