(brief intermission from lurk]
I was at the game, and Haith and Denmon had a little sniping match in the first half because Denmon wasn't playing through the offense, and was freelancing a little (at least, that's what I took away from it). I wonder if that's Denmon's issue; overhyping himself after a hot start and not being enough of a team guy on O.

That's light-speed right there, kiddos. And it got even worse from there.

Just look at the talent on that squad:

http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/...ouri/2004.html

It's a legit 7-deep that had plenty of talent in the back-court, size in the front-court and athleticism to spare.

Quin should've been fired the day after that season ended. That has to be one of the worst coaching jobs in conference history right there.

That was an incredibly talented team. It was also the last Mizzou team that didn't make the tourney. I wonder how many schools have made the tournament and a bowl game every season since 2005.

I don't see that at all in his play. Not saying you're wrong, but I can't even imagine that being the case.

Not true.

We had a 4 year stretch where we didn't make the tourney - 2 more Quin seasons after that one and then the first 2 years of Anderson's run. We didn't get back in until the insane 08-09 team that was supposed to be crap (afterall, the previous year's team sure was).

That 5 year run did enough damage to the basketball program to set us back another 5. You could make a good argument that this season is really the first year 'back' from the damage done by the Snyder era.

I just watched the game replay. The shooter was literally untouched on the last shot. How could that possibly be called a foul?

I did not see anyway one could call a foul on that last play...given that there were many more non-calls that involved much more significant contact.

Imon Yourside 01-31-2012 01:36 AM

Tejas pissed down their leg here, the fouls were about what you would expect for a home/away team.

Mizzou sweeps Texas (football and basketball) on our way out of their conference. LOL.

Wow that last 4 minutes made my heart pressure increase.

Haith going into stand around mode way too early. doh
Flip losing that steal off the ref legs. doh
Ratliffe getting called for a ghost foul on a rebound. doh?
Dixon being a effing moron and elbowing a guy in the face. doh

Luckily Dixon made up for that mistake with a clutch shot.

whew.

I think slowing the game down happened at the right time. They just did it VERY poorly by going down to 8 on the shot clock before doing anything.

I admit I thought they were going to lose when it was at about 2 minutes left... they had let double digit leads melt away too easily. I will take the win by 1 even though it could have easily been by 10.

As Coach Knight pointed out they need to get those guys up further and not so close to the halfcourt line. That was part of the reason that Dixon went full reerun as he had nowhere else to go.

I really have enjoyed Knights commentary this year. He brings a really good coaches perspective to the booth and points out some really good things that a normal analyst might miss.

Slowing down the game was the correct move. Gluing our guards to the Texas logo until there were 7 seconds on the shot clock was stupid. I don't know why Pressey goes full reerun when trying to control the clock, but he did the same thing at the end of the first half.

He stands there until there are 7 seconds, runs around, and clanks a terrible shot with a guy in his face...every...single...time.

Lono 01-31-2012 09:29 AM

After the game, Barnes and Kabongo were left complaining that a foul wasn't called on the Tigers' Matt Pressey on the final play.

Pressey appeared to catch Kabongo's non-shooting left arm when he went up for the final shot on the baseline. Kabongo short-armed the shot, which then fell to Denmon.

"He did get fouled," Barnes said. "(But) what we needed was to get a stop on the other end and we didn't get it. ... It's tough when you're trying to get over the hump and it seems plays like that don't go your way."

I didn't think he got fouled but if he did it makes up for the bs foul on Rat about a min before on that rebound. How do they call a foul on him when the Texas guy was coming from behind?

I like him... he'll sometimes get stuck on one topic or crticism, like spending the first half of last night's game talking about the shot fake, but he's probably my favorite CBB analyst. And one if his biggest pet peeves is mine, too... poor shot selection, especially early in the shot clock.

Yeah, that was the worst call of the night. If anything it should've been an over-the-back call on the guy that hit the deck.

Ratliff didn't do anything but put his arm straight up for the ball. A tiny kid bouncing off him surely shouldn't be a penalty on him.
