Because many people believe Sal is gonna grow out of his catching figure and eventually have to switch to DH or another position, kid is still growing. Thats just how it is, he may or may not be a long term catcher. Just depends on how he grows

Um, Cain is going to be in CF to start the year.

That has nothing to do with him "already being there" cause he hasn't and isn't as of yet. Just because people are penciling him in. I would most certainly consider him part of the "next wave".

Hate seeing that cause the kid is so good back there.

This is how I would go too... unless we get blown away by an offer before the season. There's no guarantee Broxton is going to bounce back from injury so you give it time and if he does then Soria could become expendable... (which is weird to think for me being that he's been a star for the most part on some bad teams... now we could become a good team and not need him)... and of course Holland is there for insurance too.

Agreed. Soria's trade value is low now, he's our closer until he establishes his trade value and we prove we won't be a playoff team in 2012. (who knows, maybe we'll hit enough to the point where we need him to win the division)

Barring a complete disaster, Cain is a Kansas City Royal opening day 2012. We have no one behind him who can play every day, that was obviously the plan when we traded off Cabrera.

Right... but the subject was the next wave. I see him as part of the next wave that we get to look forward to enjoying coming up this coming season. He was not part of the "last wave" that became fixtures last season.....

Good young catchers are extremely valuable. He'd be fine in AAA.

Fair enough, compared to everyone else, he's pretty young and unproven. I'd consider him part of the "next wave" too, if we want to put the dividing line there.

This is the first wave, the next wave will be 2-4 years from now.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to reload the team in 2-4 years?

alnorth 12-19-2011 08:28 PM

For F's sake, hurry up and announce who won the Yu Darvish sweepstakes, so I can begin to make fun of that dumbass team and we can all move on. The announcement is late a half hour.

I think we already had our "wave". The rest will just be a steady stream as needed. Ideally, we will have enough talent in the minors going forward that we can trade away some of our established players in the future for additional key prospects knowing that we can plug in a major league ready prospect. Basically, we will see a lot more trades like Melky's.

Being an optomistic homer I hope we don't have to. But yes being able to would be great.
