That doesn't mean he still doesn't have a lot to offer the team if he can come back healthy. He's still good out of the backfield, he's still a short yardage ace, and he's still an excellent blocker.
And there's still a world of difference between "Holmes' best days are behind him" and "**** Priest Holmes."
Just like there's a world of difference between saying "that post was uncalled for" and "you're an ungrateful thumb-sucking afterthought that owes his existance to mom's willingness to trade two cocks for a rock..."
