Eddie Kennison was a career nothing before he came here and got taken up off the scrap heap. There's also nothing that guarantees that Lilja is going to be better than Black or Wellbourne at Guard.

Furthermore, if you are going to take the Chiefs to task for poor personnel decisions, it starts with two moves: 1) Drafting Sims over Henderson, and 2) Trading Down to take Siavii instead of Olshansky.

The Chiefs traded down from the 1st to the 2nd that year. With the Chiefs pick, the Lions took Kevin Jones late in the first. By the time the Chiefs drafted early in the 2nd the Chargers had already spent their pick #1 overall in the 2nd round, on Olshanksy.
