I've ridden with a buddy of mine when he was a cop. We were shitty drunk, he was driving.
He asked if I wanted to see how they learned to shoot left handed, I said yes. While steering with his right hand he took his weapon in his left and proceeded to lean out the window and blow out 3 streetlights in a row. In the middle of a mid-major city.
When we got pulled over shortly thereafter, my buddy showed his badge, the officer nodded and walked away. Code Blue is a real thing indeed.
Thing is, that morning my buddy had been called to examine an abandoned vehicle. When he opened it he discovered a bloated corpse that had been cooking inside a car for a week in the dead of summer.
That afternoon he got called to a domestic dispute and was standing on the front porch when a shotgun blast erupted 6 inches to his left. The old man had been laying under the porch, waiting for him.
Cops endure more pressure during their working day than most; they are human and that pressure has to be released. Like the rest of us some have healthier release methods (working out, responsible drinking, hot sloppy three way sex until someone get their pussy turned inside out, etc.) than others. The guy in this story is one of the others, and should be punished accordingly. IMO.
