Remember that the Colts invested nearly all their money on the offensive side of the ball. And, the Colts built a defense to compliment the offense.

The offense puts up big points quickly... run defense is not that important because MOST of the time, the opponent will be dropping back to pass.

Plus, they play eight games in a dome. It was all about speed... not power.

I just think Tampa 2, like any other defense, is whatever you make of it.

It is not my favorite defense. I actually like a 3-4 defense. I think that it makes the other team the most uncomfortable, and that is what I want.

That said, any defense can be effective if you have good players and the coaches are on the same page. JMO.

If you look at the games, and the plays that they ran, they were MUCH more conservative in 2005. It wasn't until after they were pretty much eliminated fromt he playoffs that DV let Gunther do his thing.

I don't expect you to agree with me. It is public perception that DV just let him do what he wants.

But, if you go back to the 2005 preseason, DV said that he was working with Gunther to remove the plays that were a little to aggressive and not 'fundamentally' sound.

DV used the 2004 season as his justification. I think it was a little unfair given the injuries to the linebacking corps in 2004. And, given that Gunther's defense is heavily dependent on linebacker 'fits', it was a recipe for dissaster.

Anyways, I think Gunther will do a good job in Detroit. I am sorry to see it not work out here.

I forget Gun's exact comments regarding Vermeil, but he certainly suggested Vermeil handcuffed him. Regarding Saunders, when Gailey was hired, Gailey made some comment about sometimes just running on 3rd and long and Gun commented about how that was music to his ears and would make his job easier.

Now, I don't think Gun throw those guys under the bus as much as Herm, but he did.
