The offense puts up big points quickly... run defense is not that important because MOST of the time, the opponent will be dropping back to pass.

Plus, they play eight games in a dome. It was all about speed... not power.

I just think Tampa 2, like any other defense, is whatever you make of it.

It is not my favorite defense. I actually like a 3-4 defense. I think that it makes the other team the most uncomfortable, and that is what I want.

That said, any defense can be effective if you have good players and the coaches are on the same page. JMO.

i think the tampa 2 aint done shit in years and i refuse to make excuses for the system.

it sucks. plain and simple.

Me to. I wish him the best. He couldn't get it done here this last go around but there is no disputing his love for the Chiefs. Good luck Gun

If you look at the games, and the plays that they ran, they were MUCH more conservative in 2005. It wasn't until after they were pretty much eliminated fromt he playoffs that DV let Gunther do his thing.

I don't expect you to agree with me. It is public perception that DV just let him do what he wants.

But, if you go back to the 2005 preseason, DV said that he was working with Gunther to remove the plays that were a little to aggressive and not 'fundamentally' sound.

DV used the 2004 season as his justification. I think it was a little unfair given the injuries to the linebacking corps in 2004. And, given that Gunther's defense is heavily dependent on linebacker 'fits', it was a recipe for dissaster.

Anyways, I think Gunther will do a good job in Detroit. I am sorry to see it not work out here.

You are so far off the mark. DV handcuffed Gun more than Herm?

I forget Gun's exact comments regarding Vermeil, but he certainly suggested Vermeil handcuffed him. Regarding Saunders, when Gailey was hired, Gailey made some comment about sometimes just running on 3rd and long and Gun commented about how that was music to his ears and would make his job easier.

Now, I don't think Gun throw those guys under the bus as much as Herm, but he did.

Gunther blathered about "taking their souls" and stupid crap like that. I wouldn't take anything he said seriously, he's a mentally ill person.

Scorp 01-21-2009 08:43 AM

How the hell can you be in charge of one of the worst defense in the league the last two years, and still get offered another job as defensive coordinator?

Utterly speechless.

Remember when he threatened everyone to come to his office and tell him that Kendrell Bell sucks?

LMAO

Remember when he showed a gochiefs video in an actual NFL defensive meeting in a desparate attempt to motivate?

Well first off, we don't know what happends on the sidelines, in the booth, what is being said over the headphones etc, if DV had final say and did in fact handcuff Gunther, and wouldnt let him do his thing, then I see no problem in Gunther admitting that. Doesn't surprise me actually because the defense under DV collectively stayed the same and never got better.

As far as the whole Chan thing, I wouldnt really call that throwing AS under the bus, because most of the time with AS, we would convert on 3rd n long.

How bad does Gunther think KC is if he is willing to go to a team that was 0 - 16 last team?

Is he wanting to go there because anything would be an improvment? Too much pressure in KC with the higher expectations with Pioli in charge? Or could he see the writing on the wall for all of the coaches and wanted to flee the sinking coaching ship.
