I did it because I was bored. All I got from it was her trying to get some degree of shock value across so she could get more publicity. I didn't see much more than a dressed up version of the old Mike Myers "Sprockets" bit. Maybe I missed something, but I didn't see much that I consider imaginative. The feeling I got most from the video was apathy and boredom.
I'd say she was going for some dada effect but she seems to be under the impression that she's getting an actual artistic point across. Perhaps there is one and I just don't care to see it.
And I stand by the Moe comment. That part is indisputable.

For what it is worth - there are lots of people, many of them scholars, that see a lot more than you are: http://gagajournal.blogspot.com/2010...ary-ideas.html

I don't understand America's obsession with this ugly bitch. Her music is awful, he schtick is ****ing reeruned, and this video is the gayest shit i've ever seen. No one wants to see men rubbing each other and dressing like girls. Is her gay following that big or something?

I dont know....maybe im getting old and im not cool enough to get it anymore.

I got the sense in the video that her character really was pining for someone. Either a named figure (Alejandro) or a composite of many different persons, alluded to by the various other names used in the song. Her quote seems to ring true within the context of the video, about the "purity of my friendships with my gay friends, and how I've been unable to find that with a straight man in my life....in the video I'm pining for the love of my gay friends—but they just don't want me to be with them."

I don't know, I was put off a bit by the overtly homosexual dance moves in the video. I generally don't enjoy watching men dance anyway. Even when the gay ones are pretending to be straight. But, as always, my eye was drawn to Gaga throughout. I love the way she moves.

Yeah, I'm thinking it was. It's a great gimmick. I find it hilarious. I think she's just out there singing and dancing around, having fun. Making a video lets her do a little acting too. No big deal.

I think my main problem with Gaga is she tends toward a pretty one-dimensional portrayal of homosexuality. I realize that she's just projecting parallel images of the music video medium (which pretty much relies on heterosexual objectification), but it just sort of annoys me that in her advocacy for GLBT, she pretty much just depicts them as hypersexualized leather freaks.

If I had a gripe about the video, that would definitely be up there on my list.

You guys are acting like that was an oversight on her/Stephen Klein's part or that it wasn't intentional. Certainly that is there... but can you make an argument that GaGa depicts homosexuals one-dimensionally? That is sort of a leap to me; taking the sexual scenes that are always presented as the homosexual male in relation to GaGa herself and extending that to all homosexuals.

blaise 06-14-2010 10:17 PM

Maybe she should have added some campy, sassy, advice giving, best friend kind of homosexual dudes as well.

Marilyn Manson's videos are pretty much the same. It's just that only 23 people listen to his music, so not many people got it the first time.

I don't know, that comment seems pretty appropriate for this thread.

Only if you ascribe to Vigilant Citizen's take.

Oh for ****'s sake.

We get it - you like gays and you want to be Madonna.

If we just keep sending money your way, will you promise to go away?

I'm not gonna lie. I am a Lady Gaga fan. Her songs are catchy. That being said this video is absolutely disturbing on so many levels.

Bomb away.....

(Currently listening to this song, dancing violently, taking giant bong rips, pounding my chest like a cracked out rabid Gorilla, roaring like a god damn Lion.)
