I think that the d getting gouged just goes to show that in the NFL, one blown assignment or missed gap can lead to a big gain. I know we didn't quite have the preaseason we wanted but it is steal preseason

But this thing about falling into an early hole is a bad trend with the Chiefs that goes back a few years with us. I want to see our D come out aware and clicking at the very beginning of the games. A little frustrating when they seem to sleepwalk through the first couple of enemy drives. |
Why do people keep saying our division sucks? Yeah, the Donkeys suck, but that's about it.
SD has Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates back healthy. Phillip Rivers is an Elite QB. Chiefs fans, it's time for you guys to accept it. As long as Rivers is in the Division, the Chargers will always be a division contender. Oakland Returns with #2 Rushing Offense in the NFL and they pounded the division last year .... Yeah, Denver, you suck. It's going to take 11 wins to take the division, at least. |

Our division always plays us tough. I remember when SD was 1-15 and we were their one and only win. They play us hard no matter what. But I don't think anyone in our division will fare as well against the rest of the schedule. I would be pretty shocked if anyone in the AFC west gets 11 wins this year. |

I think they lose all 5 of those games.

I think too many people (and I don't mean you when I'm saying this, just making a general comment...) are expecting the wrong thing from our d-line. This is not the Cowboys defense, these guys are not busting upfield to make plays in the backfield. That's just not their role. And I think failing to grasp that is what leads to so many people (starting with the media) complaining about Jackson and (I'm expecting...) Gregg and even Dorsey. Not taking down ball carriers in the backfield and not sacking quarterbacks does not mean they're playing poorly. Because, basically, the only time they get to go after guys is when a blocking assignment is completely whiffed. The rest of the time it's boring old trench work. Now if they get blown off the ball, that's another story. But most of the time their job is about holding people up so the linebackers are free to do their thing. And unfortunately, Studebaker doesn't appear to be able to do that a lot of the time. He's not very agile or quick laterally, he doesn't have any speed in pursuit and he doesn't have the experience and knowledge that in the past let Vrabel compensate (to a degree) for those same limitations. I think we're going to see a lot of people targetting the left side of the defense this year, and while some of that may well be Jackson (he's not Dorsey...), I think the real weak link is Stude. Too many running plays this preseason have been stalled at the line, and then taken outside where he doesn't have the speed to cut them off before they get the corner. |

Will they? Doubtful. |

Both Sheff and Houston's styles are more aggressive than Studey's. Though as non-starters they had little involvement in the 1st couple of drives once they are in they have to learn to protect against overplaying the rush. |
I need to see Houston and The Sheriff play better in run support before I go crying that Studebaker should be benched.
