Report: Manning to visit Arizona
The Cardinals are next on Peyton Manning's free-agent tour.
After spending more than 24 hours in Denver, Manning is heading to Arizona, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported. Manning is set to fly to Arizona to meet with Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt Saturday evening.
The Colts on Wednesday released Manning, who then went to his South Florida condo before traveling to Denver to visit with Broncos head coach John Fox and executive VP of football operations John Elway. Manning spent the night in Denver.
Manning and Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald apparently had dinner in Indianapolis the week before the Super Bowl. Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb, who was acquired in a trade last offseason, is due a $7 million bonus on March 17.
The Jets are out of the running for Manning after signing QB Mark Sanchez to a contract extension. The Redskins traded up to get the No. 2 pick in the draft, where they will likely select QB Robert Griffin III, but reports indicate they have not closed the door on pursuing Manning.
Manning also reportedly has a visit set up with the Dolphins. Another team that has shown interest is the Chiefs.
The way we see it
Some felt that if Manning left Denver without a deal, the Broncos would be out of the running. Glazer reported otherwise, that Manning did not want to simply sign after one visit. Whisenhunt molded his offense for QB Kurt Warner and had plenty of success a few years ago, and with Fitzgerald on the field, Manning would be paired with one of the league's best receivers in Arizona, which also has a warm climate and a relatively easy division.
Miami is still expected to make a big push to try to land Manning. It appears that Manning's decision will come before free agency opens on Tuesday afternoon, as his chosen team will want to use him as a recruiting tool.
