They're trying to push their numbers up because it makes them feel good. They don't actually care about who they have as friends, it's the number that matters.

I had roughly 130 friends when I decided 128 of them annoyed the **** out of me and deleted my page. Every now and then one of them will say hey I haven't seen you on fb much lately and I tell them yeah I haven't had a page in 2 years. For some reason the subsequent look of confusion and the "oh" I get amuses me more than anything they ever said on fb.

That said, I think fb is a fantastic tool for businesses and we use it a lot for that.

I can't quite figure it out. I think each individual user has their own board, and they put pictures of clothes, recipes, and quotes in some sort of organized, decorative fashion, and then comment on other people's boards.

A ton of people I met in college and don't really talk to anymore and/or only partied with.

I hide people like it's going out of style though. Attention whores are immediately deleted from my feed and I subscribe to the interesting friends I have.
