Did the Dallas Texans ever have a franchise QB? If not I'm sure the answer isn't "never."

Len Dawson was the scourge back when he played. The joke was, "What doll walks backwards and falls over? Len Dawson!" He's become an icon only because time has been kind. Mike Livingston did everything in the '69 season when Lenny was hurt. Lenny came in and was no better than Mike. The defense won that season and the Superbowl.

I wouldn't argue with the claim that Lenny wasn't a franchise QB.

He was, however, a very good system QB that managed the game a shit ton better than Mike Livingston.

I don't think he could play in today's league, no. The game is just too fast and those guys weren't exactly elusive.

However, IMHO they were way tougher back then before all the pussified "protect the bitches" rules came out.

Actually, Dawson was pretty quick and elusive.
His mobility is the reason that Hank Stram created the moving pocket.

I define a franchise qb as a player that has the skills necessary (both physical and mental) to lead his team to winning a championship.

For me, I think Trent Green could have done that...before him it was the few minutes we had Joe and then it goes all the way back to the only guy to have ever actually won one for this city in Lenny.

To complete the sentence...

Trent Green.

He was the QB when Def Leppards album with "Don't Shoot Shotgun" came out and my little brother and I changed it to be "Run Run Shotgun." Even as kids we got that.

...the Chiefs front office is a bunch of clowns that have no clue as to find and develop such a player.

EPodolak 10-06-2012 02:39 AM

The right answer is Lenny Dawson. That's because his era was the time I was a kid in KC which makes me happy to remember and gives me a reason to keep paying attention to this (currently) sorry franchise.
