The car is worth more than that.

bevischief 12-22-2012 02:09 PM

Do you need the car sell to what you are selling?

Should and reality are usually two different things when dealing with someone else's insurance company.

A "Good" paint shop will be able to match it. Did the dude have insurance?

Rain Man 12-22-2012 02:38 PM

The nice thing is that the other guy has insurance and it's the same company as ours. Apparently that greases the skids a lot. The insurance company said that as long as the other guy admits responsibility, they'll waive our deductible and give us the rental car for free while our car is being repaired.

I'm presuming the other guy will admit responsibility because he gave my wife his insurance info, and it's legit. Since our car was parked and unoccupied, there shouldn't be much doubt about responsibility unless he starts lying, and apparently he wasn't inclined to do that at the time.

The drug addict that forgot to tighten his lug nuts said he worked for a detailing shop. If I found anything later, he offered to "buff it right out". Let me know if you want his number.

Knock, knock.

Who's there?

Apricot.

Apricot who?

Apricot to look behind me when I was backing into that parking space.

I haven't read all the responses to see if this has been covered...but don't repaint any part of the car you absolutely don't have to. The factory paint job is the best paint job your car will ever have and you don't want to go monkeying around with it. Take it to a high end body shop and let them do their thing.

I know this chick and she can suck the paint off of anything.

It's not like this car will ever be a massively valuable collector car, but my father the purist hates repainting cars and always said it'll impact its value. Since it is a non-production color, repainting it is not desirable to me.

Well I guess I don't understand the purist comment since the car has already been painted. It didn't come from the factory with that paint color or scheme. So in essence this would be the 3rd paint job not the 2cd. The value from deviating from an original paint job has already been deducted.

Okay, it'll survive, but it's a bummer.

My wife was walking to the car after her yoga class, and some fellow was trying to parallel park in front of her. As she walked up, he apparently decided that there were two parking spots, not one, and decided to back into our spot.

Tell me how this happens, but somehow he ended up more or less broadsiding our car. He hit the side of the car BEHIND the driver door, right in front of the back wheel. It didn't affect anything mechanical, but now it's got a big ol' dent in it, and my bigger worry is that it scraped up the paint.

This car's paint is very unusual. BMW didn't go to market with it, so it's not a normal BMW color. It looks like some places sell touch-up paint, but will it match on a big swath of the fender? Or am I going to have to repaint the whole car? It's 12 years old, so I'd suspect that there's some fading.

I would really hate to repaint the whole car.

That's hard to believe.
