You're probably right. But do the owners even care? He was able to get the owners another 5% cut in revenue by locking the players out and playing the poor card. He's negotiated billions in TV contracts. He's been able to hardball multiple cities for taxpayer money for stadiums. Soon he'll probably start pushing for 18 games and extra playoff teams to push it even farther.

I'm not in any way defending his administration of the game itself. But him making $20 million a year isn't about that. I'm sure he's not the only guy that could do it, but as long as the $$ is pouring in things won't change.

that too

in fact, i still think they find some way to get part of the donations during the primaries etc. Too many guys run over and over again ... they must make some cash from it. imo.

I make six figures and I work my ass off almost every day of the year. in order to make what he makes according to how hard I work and how hard he allegedly works, I'd have to work 70 to 100 times harder, which is ****ing impossible to do.

That money comes from raising your profile so that you can charge more for speaking appearances, get a job as a pundit on a cable news channel, have someone ghostwrite a book for you, and act as a consultant for any number of corporations. It would be foolish to launder contributions because that's a federal offense and there are tons of other avenues to make buckets of money.

This isn't a typical business because Goodell and other NFL owners get to cap their player's wages, and then pocket additional money for themselves. He's overpaid and he's bad at what he does.

That's why I referred to it as a "cartel". You may have missed that part.

You apparently don't provide your employers the same economic value he does.

I'm sure you're correct.

man they have lots and lots of money flowing through their campaigns though. Hard to believe they can resist that when they can't resist so many other things.

NFL is an $8.4 billion/year business (approximately).

$20 million isn't a huge # relative to that total amount.

I hate what the NFL is becoming. However, Goodell is a smart executive. He knows that certain players bring in the fans. Was it really any surprise after Tom Brady went down, they come out with a rule the very next year that penalizes and fines players who go for the knees of a QB? Goodell wants the all star players upright and healthy! They're good for business.

You realize that it's the owners making those decisions not Goodell, right?

You don't count the numbers to the right of the decimal point.

It is my understanding that Goodell is the one who finalizes everything. He assigns the fines, and the amount per illegality. He also has authority to ban players and coaches just like he did with the Saints. He is without a doubt the single most powerful, influential figure in the NFL.

I wish I could get 20 million to completely destroy something.
