I'm not suggesting we put him into the starting lineup or anything based on his ability to come in on corner blitzes and play special teams, but I think it's time to start looking to people like him instead of Dunta when we need fill-ins for nickel and dime packages.

At any rate, we could definitely use him at CB if we're not going to overhaul that position.

Isn't he like 31 or32 years old?

I'm still shocked that we played the entire year without a free safety in 2013. It seems like someone would have noticed at some point.

He's 26 years old. Has been around the NFL a few years, though. Bouncing from practice squad to practice squad.

I'd like to see us use him the way the Packers use Jarrett Bush.

This is, of course, contingent on who we bring in and let go in free agency. There's always room for someone like Ron Parker to get the axe if the talent is there.

BossChief 01-18-2014 10:56 PM

Not sure why I thought he was older...maybe it's how he looks.

I agree though, I'd like to see him get an increased role. He consistently made plays when he was out there.

Buehler445 01-18-2014 11:07 PM

I agree we need to get Abdulah locked up.

Dunta was a huge uh uh. I was actually excited about his signing as a fill in.

Personally, I thought Marcus Cooper did well. he was a rookie and will grow and did so with no NO NO help over the top at all ever.

Ask Kendrick Lewis about how a shoulder injury can effect what started as promising safety play.

BossChief 01-19-2014 12:45 AM

Lewis is no better than Page was, in fact Page was probably better and he was trash. There is no excuse for Lewis to have started that many games. I don't think he ever showed much beyond being in the right place at the right time. Same as Page. Those guys are game slow, take terrible angles, can't tackle, are fooled easily, go for the ankle like they are terrified of contact and are a general liability to the unit as a whole.

It's like some teams just don't realize how much a good safety is worth in today's NFL.

I think Marcus Cooper is gonna be a special player once we get some good safety play.

I couldn't agree any more on Cooper. Kid has stud written all over him.

Promising, my ass.
He has been a useless **** since day one.

Sign Free agent Antoine Bethea (Colts) to play Strong Safety. Move Eric Berry to Free Safety.

Jimmya 01-19-2014 09:20 AM

It's Sutton's fault.

I'm not sure why there's so much love for Abdullah and Parker. They're only getting love because they are better than the absolute shit show options we had in Lewis and Dunta Robinson. It's the Brady Quinn effect. We were so anxious to get rid of Cassel that we tried our hardest to get excited about any QB that wasn't Matt Cassel.

If we have to keep these guys around as backups because we can't fix the secondary problem overnight, fine. But we can do a whole lot better.

No. Abdullah was very good in Minnesota until he took the Mecca trip. Took some time to get back to game speed but the guy is a playmaker. Sign him yesterday.

The more I watch of Jason Verrett out of TCU, the more I want him to be our first round pick. He flies to the ball better than any other DB I've watched in this draft. If I were to go defense in this draft, I would go Jason Verrett with the first pick and Will Clarke with the second.
