FYI, this is an extention..not a new contract..so it is 7 years (not 6 years). 15-18 million depending on his hitting certain incentives. The only part of this that is a bit much is the 61 million guarantee.

I'm okay with this deal considering.

I don't think that's going to happen.

And don't get me wrong, I like his story and I hope he has a great career. He's the kind of guy you pull for to keep developing and become a really good QB.

That said there's a huge difference between pulling for a young QB and saying he's worth the most guaranteed money in the NFL...

They can forget about keeping that squad together. One player eating up that much cap will cost them after this season. One of the reAsons Seattle was so good is because Wilson is cheap right now. Now they will give him 62 mill guaranteed.

this almost smells like something the Radies would do

Gravedigger 06-04-2014 02:43 PM

I honestly think certain positions should have a cap against what can be given to them. Increasing the payrolls of these teams won't help when the QB is making 15% of the teams cap in one year, they'll just keep getting bigger deals. I don't think it's good business for the NFL if this continues and middle tier QB's are paid like they belong on the top 10 list of all time.

The cap's supposedly going to be making big jumps moving forward.

I'm not sure what to think about the NFL and its' cap etc.

that will probably be the next evolution of the NFL salary cap

Max contracts ala the NBA

Keep one player from trashing the entire team.

Why do people think this cripples SF financially? 60 guaranteed means a 10 mil cap hit for the bonus fro the life of the contract. You could do a contract with reasonable numbers the first 5 years and a balloon at the end.

1. 10 mil bonus + 1 mil base = 11cap hit.
2. 10 mil bonus + 3 mil base = 13 cap hit.
3. 10 mil bonus + 3 mil base = 13 cap hit.
4. 10 mil bonus + 5 mil base = 15 cap hit.
5. 10 mil bonus + 9 mil base = 19 cap hit.
6. 10 mil bonus + 19 mil base = 29 cap hit (never realized, only on the hook for the 10 mil. With the additional tv revenue from the 4 european teams, it's a drop in the bucket).

If he gets hurt you are scrwed, but they could be set at QB for the next 5 years for a reasonable cap hit each year.

People are dumb and don't understand the salary cap.

Deberg_1990 06-04-2014 02:58 PM

Why do people think he's not worth it?

Sure, he's not top tier, but he's not garbage either.

He wins games and keeps his team competitive.

What in your opinion should he be paid?

It is an extension... He has one year on the current contract. So it is 7 years.
