I am not terribly pleased that Hali took to social media to voice his displeasure, but there is no doubt he has taken less/"played ball" with the brass before with regards to contract management. He is collecting his just due whether we like it or not.

Sherman might as well take a pay cut right off the team for no more than he is used

DJ is showing a lot of goodwill, good on him

Tamba has earned the right to talk back, but the truth is that he is kaput... at this point his only real value is leadership

All this DJ love going around and everyone forgets about Sherman

Sadly, I think this is his last year.....

Can someone please quantify the "favor" the Tamba mentioned on social media? How much did he save the organization when he restructured? Since the dead money wouldn't make it feasible to cut him this year, won't he realize everybit of those $ from the restructure?
Thanks in advance

RealSNR 03-17-2017 12:46 PM

Did Sherman even see the field for 25% of the offensive snaps this year?

Seriously. He was on the field about as often as our long snapper. If you're paying him to be a special teams guy, he needs to fill a depth position of value.

After we draft TJ Watt, Tampa should be a June 1st cut

I don't think that will happen. It's a pretty big market.

If DJ isn't on the Ring of Honor the very first season he's eligible, I will personally go piss on Clark's front yard. Class act, on and off the field. My 2nd favorite Chief ever, after Mr. Willie Lanier.

I doubt they "took a pay cut"

they restructured their deal but it looks like they didn't lose any money.

Absolutely not, restructuring Tamba would just put us in a bigger hole when he leaves.

Tamba needs to take a true pay cut or do nothing with his contract.

looks like he lost over 4 million to me, but i might be missing something.

looks like he can recoup it through incentives BUT he's hurt, how likely is that?

Yea, we don't really know what happened yet. Sounds like to me he will get that 4 million back if he is healthy enough to make the team but still just guessing.

Here's another article

Report: Derrick Johnson, Anthony Sherman take a pay cut

Wondering how the Kasnas City Chiefs were able to afford signing defensive lineman Bennie Logan to a one-year, $8 million deal?

Well, here’s your answer.

Per Field Yates of ESPN, Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson took a pay cut for 2017, creating $4.25 million in cap room.

Source: Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson has taken a pay cut for 2017. He got a $1M signing bonus & $1M base salary, creating ~$4.25M in cap space.

— Field Yates (@FieldYates) March 17, 2017

Also, fullback Anthony Sherman dropped his 2017 base salary from $1.55 million to $1.1 million and also dropped his roster bonuses, creating $550,000 in cap room.

Over the Cap has the Chiefs’ cap space listed at about $427,000 right now, and that’s not including Johnson and Sherman’s restructure. Adding those in, and the Chiefs should have a little over $5 million in cap space for 2017. That’s enough for the team to possibly sign another free agent (like Gerald Hodges?) and sign the new draft picks in April.

The fact that Johnson and Sherman were willing to cut their contracts shows how big of team guys these two are. There aren’t many players that are willing to just get rid of money like that. Much respect to those two.

Following this news, I’m curious to see if the Chiefs make any more moves to create cap room. Could they restructure any more contracts? Tamba Hali’s? Will they cut anyone? It’s possible if they want to sign more free agents.
