If you're really nice to GBlowfish, he may give you the tour of the Harry Truman Presidential Library like he did for me. It was really great!

Worth a visit as well.

Q39 is good but seems to be overhyped these days
WWI museum and go up in the tower to get the city view

Nelson Atkins museum is cool but maybe not to a 15 year old.

The zoo is ok, but is pretty spread out. Make sure to hydrate heavily as it has been hot and humid in KC recently.

Worlds of Fun/Oceans of fun might be a good time, likely more fun than the zoo

Visit the stadium stores for royals/chiefs and if you get a chance take the stadium tours. Those are pretty cool and are reasonably priced (not sure about game day though).

Throw back to cool crest on 40 hwy, An oldie but goodie regardless of what others might say.

Ride the streetcar

Steamboat of Arabia museum, kind of meh but the river market is cool.

catch a sporting kc game maybe?

KC also has a lot of escape room places which might be fun for you both.

we got an airbnb on SLR which is equal distance from westport, Q39 and the original Joe's KC. Noice!!

Go to the crossroads and hit the breweries & distilleries, of which about 7 have opened since you were last here. Torn Label, Border, Double-Shift, Brewery Emperial, Lifted Spirts, Toms Town to name a few.

In that same vein, check out the Boulevared Beer Hall, as well as TikiCat in Westport. TikiCat is small so you need to make a reservation, but it's well worth it.

Park your car at Union Station and ride the streetcar to the River Market. Eat at either Brown & Loe, , KC Taco Company, or Il Lazzarone.

On your way back, get off at the stop next to BRGR. Hit up Insomnia cookies and maybe catch a flick at the Alamo Drafthouse. There's also a new Rally House here that has great team and KC apparel. Consider checking out No Other Pub, a Sporting KC bar with bowling, beer pong, and other games indoors.

Hit up local shops like Westside Storey, Normal Human, or the Charlie Hustle store on the plaza.

I think you'll be surprised at how much our fine city has changed in just five short years. These should all be things that weren't here during your last visit!

These are all things you and your son will enjoy...even if he can't have a beer at certain stops.

Are you recommending he take his 15 year old son on a drinking tour? :hmmm:

Skip Q39. Most overrated place in town

gblowfish 07-12-2017 10:51 AM

If I was going to go on a BBQ run I'd go to Joe's, or Bryant's or Smokestack. If you're staying down between Crown Center and Westport you could go to Gates at Main and Linwood. It's right between the two areas.

Don't take this advice.

I try to avoid pissing matches on ranking BBQ joints, but it's definitely worth a try (and the hour wait that goes with it). If it's only the two people, you can likely sneak into the bar if you get there before noon.

The two times I've eaten there my food has been cold and overall it was disappointing

if you want to take the wifey someplace adult cool, go to the Manifesto basement bar in the crossroads...it's super cool....like a speakeasy from the prohibition era
