YOur probably right about TW. I dont think they offer fiber yet? BUt UVerse is only Fiber to the home in certain newer neighborhoods. Alot of the "Last mile" runs are still copper.

Well that sucks...maybe its a regional thing?? Im in Texas and it runs and looks great on my PS3.

Just called Playstation to ask about Sunday Ticket and the PS3 and they told me that Sunday Ticket will definitely be back on the PS3 this year, and that they will release pricing information in the next week or so.

I also called DirectTV earlier and one representative mentioned it would be $200.

$200 to watch a bunch of teams I don't care about?

no thanks.

I gotta have the Sunday Ticket. Which is sad considering Tulsa isn't far from KC. They always let the Cowboys games trump KC, and now with OU players playing for St. Louis and Minnesota, a lot of time THOSE teams trump the Chiefs too. I can't miss a game in my home. I just can't. I'll pay the fee.

Glad you posted this. I moved to Tulsa last December and was wondering if they showed the Chiefs much here. This kinda answers that and as long as PS3 streams the Ticket, that's the way I will go.

Wish I could just get redzone alone on my ps3.

They show the Chiefs a decent amount of the time. The better they are the more they show them.

I still get the ticket though.

I think I am going this route this year. I am iffy about my connection though. I have FIOS but I can only connect wirelessly.

The Mayor 08-04-2012 08:25 AM

I had this last year. Even after the week one debacle (referring to the stream) it was still shaky and I have a great connection. I hope DTV actually worked on it. I have had MLB.TV and it streams great on PS3.

Chiefs Pantalones 08-04-2012 09:25 AM

I had this last year and except for week one it was great. I have directv now and NFLST so I don't need it this year but I recommend it to anyone that has a PS3 and no directv. My speeds weren't even that great and it was still a great picture. I think what helped is I had it plugged in via ethernet, not wireless, so obviously it's smoother that way.

I'll have to try to hook it up via Ethernet this year then if it worked better for you that way. Thanks!

No prob, man! Yeah during the first half of the KC vs. Detroit game last year it was shaky so I went the ethernet route and after that no troubles the rest of the season.

If you have UVerse like i have, you can only get that channel if you upgrade to an HD premium tier which is an extra $7 a month. It includes about 20 sports channels and a few other random channels.

Im sure most of the other providers are similar.

I just checked the connection speed of my PS3 It's currently 10.5 down and 4.3 up, would this be sufficient for streaming Sunday Ticket?

I'd imagine they would. People in this thread have complained about how the quality wasn't very good under wireless so I think running a wired connection would be the smart way to go.

After you hook it up to the internet, just go to Network Settings and then scroll all the way down and select Internet Connection Test.

Yeah that definitely seems to be the case. They show the Chiefs here to start the season, and if they go 0-3 or something, they'll start showing them less and less. If it turns out the Chiefs are hot garbage (like they have been most of the last 7 years) then they'll flat out start showing the "game of the week" or whatever. So yeah, they show a lot of Chiefs games, but for the times they don't you'll wish you had the ticket.

So for someone like me, what is the best option?

1) I have 25Mb ethernet to my house. Even with that, streaming via Justin.tv and the like is a crapshoot.

2) I am a DirecTV subscriber but my contract expires middle of August and I am not going to renew.

3) I almost NEVER get to watch the games live due to having 2 kids nearing their teenage years.

I'm thinking the NFL Game Rewind "Follow Your Team" package for $35 is the way to go...

If you can never watch live and can stay away from results before you watch the archived game, that's definitely the way to go, and a pretty damn good deal.

My contract is up and my package, which started at $75 a month is now $115 a month. I'm not going to renew, so while this tactic would likely get me NFL ST for free, it would also likely require me to sign a new 2-year deal.

We just don't watch enough TV to justify the bill anymore. With the internet connection I have, we'd just as soon use Netflix, Crackle, etc. and get our programming via a medium we can actually justify paying for.

If the $35 NFL Rewind package will work for me, I can pay for it AND pocket $80 in the first month ALONE.

I've read that the games are generally available for viewing immediately after the Sunday night game, is that true? I can usually avoid results until at least Monday night...

You can probably read back thought this thread, but ill give you my take.

Week 1 was a national disaster. Outages reported all accross the country. It was choppy and slow and flat out sucked. Sony had to issue refunds.

After that it worked like a champ. Clear and smooth. I think it might have ran choppy or dropped out once in 17 weeks after that horrible first week.

What's the deal with that? 25Mb connection is 5 times more bandwidth than what's necessary for Justin.TV. I use Justin.tv quite a bit, and it works fine on a 2-3Mb connection. What provider? That doesn't sound right at all.

I had the slowest broadband available. And while is wasn't 1080P crystal clear...it was very watchable and not choppy (for the most part).

Most of the time, it's due to the upload bandwidth of the person providing the stream I would guess.

I didn't mean to imply that my 25Mb connection was in any way contributing to choppiness of Justin.TV. There are some streams there and other places that are going to suck no matter how much bandwidth you have.

That's a horribly written article. First off, there are fans of teams dispersed all around the country. Sunday Ticket allows those fans to watch the games not covered in their area. Especially Chiefs fans who wont be on prime time or the 'A' list game.

Second, the argument that it would be cheaper in a bar...are you kidding? Even on the cheap bar tab of say 25 bucks a Sunday, times 16 weeks is $400. Not to mention having to actually go to a bar, overpay for beer and as a chiefs fan watch the 28" LCD in the corner.

Last, for those that actually want the ticket, they have two choices. Subscribe to DirecTV or go through the PS3.

The PS3 price is 300 annually, $600 for two years.

To do DirecTV, one has to purchase a basic TV package averaging $38 per month for two years to get the Sunday Ticket for free, the first year. So the next year it's going to be $150. All told, for two years that's $1062. That's not including any taxes, rental fees for equipment and any potential installation charges.

Last but not least, the PS3 option is a good option for those that cannot get a dish to work or are in a condo/apartment that doesnt allow the dish.

Im buying it this year and I think it's a better value than DirecTV. Ive always wanted to get the Sunday Ticket, but never wanted DirecTV.

Your assumption is a majorly conservative one, too.

Most people are going to go for the Choice Xtra package (the cheap packages have horrible channel lineups) and when you start tacking on DVR, HD, and everything else, it's going to be around $60-65 a month and it will double at the end of the 2-year contract.

You're also making the assumption that the purchaser qualifies for Sunday Ticket deals. Depending on what CS rep you get and how persistent you are, long-time customers of DirecTV might end up paying alot more than $150 per year for Sunday Ticket.

Sanka 09-04-2012 08:55 PM

They finally put the app up. I downloaded it and was ready to cough up the $300 upfront and PSN isnt allowing me to put funds into my account.

Not quite sure where this figure comes from. Sunday Ticket is $199 for DTV subscribers normally. To get the Red Zone channel, online streaming, and the 30-minute "shortcuts" of games, it's $100 on top of that.

So basically, PS3 users pay the same price as DTV subscribers, but they don't have any choice to just do the "normal" package instead of the "max" package.

(Granted, it's not that hard to get DTV to give you a pretty steep discount on NFLST if you're giving them loads of money otherwise as a subscriber.)

QuikSsurfer 09-04-2012 09:06 PM

Sweet. Just downloaded and logged in with my dad's DirecTV credentials. I'm good to go.

I would call Sony and ask them to help you.

Aren't they making you pay the entire $300 upfront this year? Last year I was billed like 3 or 4 separate payments.

So I am a DirecTV customer but I don't have NFLST. I'm actually going to be cancelling my DirecTV service this week.

Can I get NFLST on my PS3 and mobile devices still?
