Hello all...

I'm still around, I just feel less motivated to post.

I don't know if it's because my business is going so well and I have less time, or if the subjects aren't as 'rich'

I will always be around though.

Good to see you're still around Luz!!

I don't like the name changes either. Although I've been around since the last year or so of the StarBB v1, I'm still about half lurker round here, and my job can force me to vanish for long stretches. Guess I'm just not clever enough to deduce when somebody goes AKA on us.

Even continued to post for about 9 months after they shut it down because there were a number of us that had the link on their server bookmarked even after the link was gone from the paper's website. Manila Chief posted over there too.

It was kinda odd in a way, the Planet started because the Star BB was censored to the extreme, while the Talkback Forum never was censored. I guess they were too busy with you guys to bother with us. That's where I learned the smack talk. The group that posted there consisted of adults that wouldn't hold anything back.

After the Talkback was finally deleted from the server, I drifted to the newer Star BB for a while. Another oddity about the censorship is that while the first wave came here because of the censorship, I ended up coming here because they WOULDN'T censor the KCStar site. A certain group, that I will leave nameless, were being quite abusive and vulgar. One of them (the ringleader) kept talking about how horrible the Chiefsplanet website was. Since I didn't think much of his opinions, I figured that if he didn't like the planet, it might be alright so I checked this place out. I had a hard time keeping up at first, but I've been here ever since.

I remember some "good times" on the talkback forum--that was my first experience with internet boards. I don't remember much of what was discussed/said, but I do think I remember your user name on there (sadly, I can't remember mine--I know it showed my e-mail address or something, but I can't rememebr what else)...

I then migrated to the star board under the name "The Bird" (used the same one on the Denver Post and InsideDenver--the two of which eventually led to the Orangemange), I think that was before talkback shut down...

It's quite rediculous how long ago that was...

Was that the one called "Home of the Chiefs Board"? I think Phil was one of the mods. That's where I started way back when. Never did post on the Star BB, since it was in full meltdown mode by the time I found it.

Oh yes, that BB was 'hacked' multiple times with idiot donkey trolls that would post a one letter thread hundreds of times over and over again. Initially the BB software wasnt set up to block that kind of spamming, so it was quite frustrating. The trolls were so bad--because the admins would rarely ban anyone--that that's when we developed the 'recipie' defense in the troll threads.

I'll never forget the time Gaz tried to discuss football with an idiot troll...that was hilarious to watch the futility of it all.

This place has never seen any trolls like that Star BB.

The talkback forum and what we're referring to as the 'Star BB' were two different things. The 'StarBB' was actually a BB on kansascity.com -- it had mutiple forums--even special forums for religion and politics, but the ONLY one that got any kind of traffic was the one for the Chiefs.

I think the reason why many refer to it as the star bb is that's how most got to the BB--next to the talkback link was a link to the BB...that's how I found it after reading the talkback forum one day and never went back to the talkback forum. I never posted in talkback.

What a storied history some of us have together. And to think some of us have made and stayed friends out of it is really something else. What is astonishing to me is out of all that I still have only five people on ignore.

I do think that an important element is missing...

the censorship of the political posts on the KCBB was born of personal attacks and NOT of political discourse. They had a paid moderator who was doing trying to do her job. But, the RWers were soooo angry back then. A nation at peace with a good economy, cheap gas, and the POTUS lying about his sex life. Troubled times, indeed. ROFL

I do think memories have eroded so I tried to couch some doubt into my story. One so as to not offend people and two to avoid the contentious issues of past that have been argued ad nauseum.

Strolling down memory lane remember the silliness to get the 100th post then the ultra craziness to get the 1000 post in the old Star BB days.

We also had a big post your pictures thread as I recall.

I enjoyed denise's entertaining myth about what happened. Political topics were banned not because of personal attacks. It began with Luz's 'Being a democrat means...' thread that was nothing more than a 'George Carlin' chain email conservative rant.

Then all hell broke loose. I dont expect denise to remember it the proper way...her delusions are more fun, Im sure.

If personal attacks were the actual case, denise would have been one of the first to go.

Not really...even after the move here, over the years, the 'separate' political forum issue had come up to a vote on several occasions before 2004 and was defeated. At one time I was an opponent of the separate forum, but changed my mind after one poster started recruiting mantra monkeys from DU to come in and spam the board.

Still, change can be positive, too. There are some worthy N00bs (sp?) on the board, I think. It's just that N00bs (sp?) don't share your experiences. So you have to make new memories. We were a hardy group who harbored much anger and venom and we would fight the nights through. As time wore on our numbers grew and a bond did seemingly develop.

Then lo one night the evil witch Becky suddenly set to banning people for political speech in her forum. Many a poster thought it was at the bequest of the Evil DEnise but she doth deny it but defend Becky mightily did she. For many months DEnise only made a token appearance and went back to the Star to lay claim to her now lonely throne, where only the n00Bs and trolls did now roam. All went well until behold technical problems with server volume did raise an ugly head.

Thence Pigskin Park/Pen was doth conceived and rivaled this board for usage and steam. Now the Star BB did shut itself down and an influx of poster at both the Planet and Park did begin and grow and grow did each board rise.

Now it is told that the Park had and Planet had many dual members but for its technical problems was the Planet Noted.

Meanwhile at the Park their arose a clamor by Gaz and DEnise of separation of political matter. As both were mods the owner did listen and split said board into two forums (sound familiar). Well lo and behold traffic in the sports forum began to dwindle while posting was soaring at the Pen we did quibble.

Well DEnise, and Jamie and Thomas and Logical too fought to the degree it killed the Pen too. Away, away, away went all back to the Planet with a better server to boot.

Together we did post in vastness and health while the BB did grow exponentially as well. Then one foggy fall day to what to our wonder cries did appear but that mean ole gal DEnise did appear. Many votes were held and still no change when suddenly there came a poll with a story like thunder. Big Daddy switched sides and said yeah we need the separation and finally it happened the separation passeth.

Time wore on and survived we did, yet this was not enough to quiet the masses. Take that DC from sight they said and gone wad the DC link forthwith.
