Awesome, I for years was a one dog at a time person.....When my first shih tzu (bentley) grew older, we got another dog, a collie (named Logan, who passed away this past october). My logan was hands down the best dog ive ever had, and it made getting over bentley a little easier (not that I didn't love bentley), but when bentley passed, and logan was still a puppy (around 1 year), we had to get another dog because he was so depressed. So my mom wanted another shih tzu, so we got hollie. When logan passed away in October, I decided to go ahead and get another dog because I missed having "my" dog since the shih tzu was my moms.....if that makes sense.

I have truthfully been to the dog park once, with cooper. I absolutely loved it, and once he gets a tad older, we'll go back!! I was really unsure about the breed, but now im absolutely nuts about them!

DeezNutz 03-08-2009 10:08 PM

Aussies are the best. Owned them myself.

Not for the lazy. But if you'll put forth the effort to exercise them, there isn't a smarter, more loyal breed. Protective as well. One of my favorites.

I have an Australian Blue Healer. He is about 10 years of age now. Getting grumpy too! But still as playful as ever. He doesn't care if he's about to die tired, he will play fetch!

Blue Healers are a very smart, playful, loyal, and protective dog, just like the Red Healers. Will not cuddle with you for more than 3 minutes. Blue Healers hate, and I mean absolutely HATE, their feet being touched. I would recommend them to any one looking for a dog.

I also have a very fat Tabby Cat. She is the official paper wait of the house. She will give up a nice comfortable, soft blanket for papers on the hard-wood floor!

I also have an Australian Cattle dog at my grandfathers house. Very playful, but often not as smart as my Blue Healer. Great breed for cuddling with.

She’s a Catahoula.

Dogs left behind by the explorer's party were interbred by the local natives with their domestic dogs.
The idea that Native Americans bred their dogs with or from red wolves is not supported by recent DNA work. Several recent studies,[5] have looked at the remains of prehistoric dogs from American archaeological sites and each has indicated that the genetics of prehistoric American dogs are similar to European and Asian domestic dogs rather than wild New World canids. In fact, these studies indicate that Native Americans brought several lines (breeds) of already domesticated dogs with them on their journeys from Asia to North America.[6].
There is a plethora of published sources detailing the domestic dogs found in prehistoric archaeological sites[7]. Clearly, the red wolf was not the only canid located in the Mississippi River Valley before the arrival of Europeans. There were also foxes and grey wolves as well as various domesticated Native American breeds.[8][9][10][11][12]
In the 1800s, French settlers arrived in Louisiana with their Beauceron. They told of strange looking dogs with haunting glass eyes that were used by the Indians to hunt game in the swamp.[13] It is thought the Beauceron and Red Wolf/war dog were interbred to produce the Catahoula. The word 'Catahoula' is actually a combination of two Choctaw words 'okhata', meaning lake, and 'hullo', meaning beloved... or a French transformation of the Choctaw Indian word for their own nation, 'Couthaougoula' pronounced 'Coot-ha-oo-goo-la'.(Don Abney)
Jim Bowie and brother Rezin Bowie, who spent much of their youth in Catahoula Parish are reported to have owned a pair of Catahoulas. It was said that they would sleep with a Catahoula at their feet.[14][15] During the early 1900s, Teddy Roosevelt used the Catahoula when hunting. Louisiana Governor Earl K. Long had an interest in the breed and collected them.[15]
In 1979, Governor Edwin Edwards signed a bill making the Catahoula the official state dog of Louisiana in recognition of their importance in the history of the region.

We have a couple Bengal cats since they're low in dander & shed very little. Well none of really matters once you own a Golden Retriever. I swear, there's hair every where. But the fact he's a very intelligent dog makes up for it.

Here's a video of the dog & cat. The dog has grown quite a bit since this. Doesn't matter, the cat still won't back down. The other cat is a lot smaller & she won't put up with the dog's shit, he doesn't even try anymore.

Cool video man. This will be my first Bengal. I've owned cats before, but never one of these. Do your cats like to play in water? I've heard a lot do, and also that they like to climb, because they come from the Asian Leopard Cat.

Haha. I just call it a jungle cat because I'm a goofball.

The breed is actually called Bengal. It is a cross between an Asian Leopard Cat(which is actually a jungle cat) and a domestic. Full grown they are about the same size as a normal cat, but they have exotic markings and don't shed much.

I think in order for them to be legal to keep as pets they have to be at least 4 generations removed from the Asian Leopard Cat. Some lady started breeding them as pets back in the day to discourage people from making coats and shit with their pelts.

I've never owned one, but they are said to be very social, active, love water, high places, some like to walk on leashes, and go for rides in the car like a dog would.

Why not just get a froo dog?

RedDread 03-26-2010 08:31 AM

If anyone is looking for a cat as a pet, mine just had kittens a week ago. They are Orange Mackerel Tabbys. The mother was a stray who came in during the winter and subsequently got preggers before I had a chance to get her fixed. She has a very loving temperament and learned what not to claw (me specifically) within the first week of me having her.

The vid and pics are from when they were 2 days old. They should be opening their eyes this week and I may be able to determine the sex of them. If not this week then next week for sure.

I love dogs, but small dogs are ****in annoying to me. Cats are a little more independent. Also I live in an apt right now and just don't think its right to keep a dog couped up in a 760 sq foot apt. I'll probably get a dog when I buy a house, start a family, etc. I've always wanted a Doberman, full size not one of those ankle biting mini versions.

I basically was wanting a cat, but didn't want to deal with all the shedding so I started researching to find a breed that didn't shed much. I found Bengals and thought they looked pretty cool. I'm adopting it from this lady in Independence. Her website is www.bengalbeauty.com

my cousin has a frenchie that she shows. she brought it up to the house one time and as soon as it hit the ground, our american bulldog nailed it. somehow, she got the little pooch away and back in her truck. she came up to me, crying and hysterical about how dangerous bosco was and in her opinion(she's a vet) should be put down. piss off...she should have known better. too bad she don't give him free shots/meds anymore, but still takes care of my lab.
sec

dogs are dogs, shit happens. If it isnt latent human aggression i would give 2 shits. Alot of vets know shit about dog breeds/cynolgy.
My Bro has an AB, tempermental ****er, but he likes me.

i love that sound. To me it means, grab you boots and get the gun.

I took the boy on his 1st night hunt, sent him right in w/ the dog. He got abit freaked when i showed him the brains....but then talked about it all the next day.

My wife always says we got jipped on our female. She sheds & is pretty small. That's OK cause the cat & my daughter are pretty tight. Our daughter is the only one who can hold her when it comes time to trim the nails.
The male's (Hemi) fur is so soft & he doesn't shed.

They both are very loud. When my wife leaves the female cat starts howling.
The male growls & takes off running to hide when the doorbell rings, he hates anybody but us. The female is the opposite.
They both love being up high, higher the better. They used to get under the covers with us until we got the dog. 70 lb dog paws hurt.
I wouldn't say they like water but they're not afraid of it.
Don't know about leashes either. I didn't want my wife & daughter letting them outside cause then they'd try to get out there with me. You ever see a guy in a wheelchair chase after a cat? Me neither.

My Boxers and the wife...it's a cheesy picture taken for our engagement, but the only one I have on this computer.

Bosley and Layla

Imu, that ain't cheesy... any boxer owner will tell you that's an awesome pic. Great looking dogs.

Looking for a pic of our two boxers (mother and daughter) to post. Sadly, the mother is 11 and losing control of her back legs. Putting her down will be the hardest thing I've ever done to a pet, but I fear it's coming within a month or so. Best dog I've ever owned...

I'll be looking for a a puppy, so if you know anyone with a litter, let me know.

Our girl has been gone 3.5 years now, but we still miss her. We always thought she was a collie mutt of some sort because of the coat and muzzle shape, but with a bit of chow because of the tail, coat, color, and black spots on her tongue. Just the other day though I discovered the samoyed breed and I now realize she probably had more of that than anything else. She was an awesome awesome dog. Very gentle and loving - great with most kids especially ours. She was happy to play, but wasn't spastic or hyper and could be content to have lazy days. Loved the snow and deep grasses she could bound through and hunt for field mice.

Example of a Samoyed:

We'd get another dog but the baby in the picture developed a pretty intense allergy and we don't want to submit him to having shots. So, it's just as well she passed on when she did or we would have had some tough choices to make.

Have any cat owners tried this? Apparently it is pretty easy to train a cat to go in the toilet. You just get something called the litter kwitter (www.litterkwitter.com) and it basically puts the litter box in the toilet and then gradually you take rings off until it's a normal toilet. Sure it's probably a pain in the ass for the 4-5 weeks it takes, but after that. No more cleaning of a litter box. No more buying cat litter. Etc. It should pay for itself in about 6 months.
