I'm probably going to get blasted for this but I think getting Cassel for a 2nd round pick is an absolute STEAL.

It'll be interesting to see what we do with the #3 pick...Curry OR will Haley want Crabtree?

I didn't watch that much of that Pats last year. If it's true that he improved a lot through the season and showed he has the tools, then this could be a steal.

cassel is a hell of an athlete, who is young, experienced. You have to have some stability at the QB position. Good move scott.

What I'm trying to understand is how you could proclaim Sanchez as the next big thing and then knock Cassel when they have roughly 1 year experience except Cassel's came against NFL defenses.

Updating previous reports, Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports a third, undisclosed team has entered the picture surrounding QB Matt Cassel. The trade parameters are in place between the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs, but it is not a definite yet that he is being shipped to Kansas City. Schefter says Cassel is being traded, to which team has yet to be determined.

I previously was convinced that the Patriots wouldn't be able to work out a trade sending quarterback Matt Cassel to the Chiefs because I believed that new Chiefs G.M. Scott Pioli and his former colleagues in New England feared the perception that one side got snookered.

There was no such fear, but it won't change the perception that one side got snookered.

Peter King of SI.com (who also does some work for NBC, and pretty much every other media company on the planet) reports that the Chiefs gave up only a second-round draft pick for Cassel.

Wow.

A second-round pick, for a guy who merited a $14.65 million, one-year contract based on his play in 2008.

Let's consider that for a second. Daunte Culpepper with blown-out knee was traded for a second-round pick. A.J. Feeley was traded for a second-round pick.

Just to be clear.. I am NOT advocating Monroe over Curry or even Crabtree... I am just saying that if we lost Waters and drafted Monroe... moving Albert inside to play next to a guy he has chemistry with... is not as much a tragedy as some here claim.

circa '95, Carl traded a 2nd to Philly for WR Victor Bailey.

The track record on this kind of deal for the Chiefs and frankly the rest of the league hasn't been good.

Schefter says that the Chiefs have not come to a new contract agreement with Cassel, so it sounds like they'll just absorb the whole 14 million cap hit for now. It's not like they don't have room. :shrug:
