And talk about it for four hours straight.:doh!:

Doesn't surprise me at all.

Congrats.

I know I was in favor of Soria for 2 innings, but man he sure labored tonight. Maybe he just doesn't have the mentality for it because he certainly wasn't the bulldog he usually is.

The streak's broken, I'd think long and hard before I asked him to do that again. I really was surprised by how tentative he looked and how absolutely gassed he appeared by the end.

He couldn't locate his curveball.

He didn't have any faith in his change either. His fastball had great armside run but was down about 3 mph. Maybe it was as simple as him just not having his best stuff, but he seemed tentative. Didn't you notice how much more aggressive he was with that last batter? It looked like in his conversation with the C he just said "look, we're finishing this right here" and came right at him. He certainly didn't approach the previous 5 outs that way.

Didn't you think he looked blasted by the end of it? I've seen plenty of relievers asked to go a 2nd inning, I don't recall ever seeing one look so physically abused by it before.

I'll tip my cap a little to Hillman here, I think there's a pretty good reason that he has avoided Soria for 2 because he didn't look like a guy that oughta be doing it often.

tk13 07-25-2009 08:21 PM

I don't think there are many closers who can go 2 innings a shot. And at least survive a long time. They start pacing themselves. Much better when they can come in for one inning and let it go. I don't think Hillman has done a very good job of handling the staff, but that's more about the starters, the Soria thing really wasn't my biggest worry. Especially with his arm troubles. If you can't find someone to bridge the gap in the 8th on a consistent basis you're in trouble anyway. Even the Yankees with Rivera have had problems this decade because they never have a consistent bullpen, and they have Mariano Rivera. One guy isn't going to carry your bullpen. And if he does, he's going to end up like Scott Williamson.

Keep your cap level.

Soria looked more frustrated than gassed to me. But whatever. I don't really give a ****.

Just saw the box score...Soria pitched two innings?!?! Hillman is such a crafty manager...

Sure-Oz 07-25-2009 09:18 PM

Just heard Hochevar had 13k's wtf is that shit?? 9 and 13k efforts back to back, saw the highlights, his ****ng curve was wicked....

has he found an out pitch or is this just dumb luck for a guy that isn't supposed to strike out much

as for Soria, im surprised he threw 45 pitches and did 2 inn.

Hoch has legitimately looked good these past few starts. But I have to keep in mind that his 9k game and this 13k game were against the top two strikeout teams in the AL. Nonetheless, those were good hitters that Luke has been striking out in bunches.

Mr. Arrowhead 07-25-2009 09:27 PM

im loving the way Hoch, is progressing, he seems like he gets better every time he pitches, which cant be said for everyone on our team

It is definetly impressive regardless and should help his confidence a ton...that said i cut david price on my fantasy team afte giving up 6 runs in 3 innings and struggling all year for me for Hochevar tonight, LOL

Sure-Oz 07-25-2009 09:32 PM

The biggest thing about Hoch his last 2 starts, ZERO walks

Sure-Oz 07-25-2009 09:49 PM

Apparently before the game DM said he wants TPJ to go to Surprise AZ to start pitching....yes PITCHING...

He has till monday i believe to accept this assignment. about ****ing time they tried this, i hope he gives it a shot, cause he has no career at SS, and he has an arm.

WTF with the obsession over TPJ? Jettison his ass and move on. I don't need any William Bartee's on my baseball team.

DM loves the kid obviously, but i'd rather have his ass trying to pitch with his arm than actually be a SS....it's worth a shot, works out great, doesn't no big deal.

He might actually have something as far as a future in relief pitching. He throws hard, with movement. He's in the system, so might as well see if this experiment can bear fruit.

Somebody needs to go to the Royals front office and wipe that goddamn ****ing smug off of Dayton Moores' ****ing rosey cheeks, and tell him that the goddman ****ing project with Tony ****ing Pena Jr. is ****ing over!

Face the ****ing fact, Dayton! Tony ****ing Pena Jr. ****ING SUCKS!

sportsman1 07-25-2009 10:50 PM

HA HA I was right. I knew my presence at the ballpark would end the losing streak. Anyone wanna buy me season tickets?

Mr. Arrowhead 07-25-2009 10:58 PM

omg is Fever attached to Hillman ass, when Soria pitched 2 innings last night, he kept going on and on about, no you shouldnt risk pitching him 2 innings, blah blah blah.

tk13 07-25-2009 11:47 PM

I think Hochevar's probably the most exciting thing happening right now, very quietly. People always say he can't strike guys out, but his pitches have ridiculous movement. Always have.

Over the last two months, Hochevar is 6-1, two no decisions where he allowed 2 runs, a 3.66 ERA, 13 BB, 45 K... probably too many HR's allowed but everything else is there.

sportsman1 07-26-2009 12:05 AM

He has good stuff really does! Very optimistic about his future. Offense has looked decent too(minus last night).Making better contact, and being a lil more patient. Blow up the bullpen, and we might have a fighting chance.

What does hitting have to do with baseball?

Oh, wait.

Demonpenz 07-26-2009 09:51 AM

Hochaver has been thowing alot harder than I though he would. He is going to be solid for 20 years and linsicums arm and mullet will fall off

Reaper16 07-26-2009 01:01 PM

Millwood gets pulled, ostensibly due to injury, right before the bottom of the third. Tough situation for Texas.

Pioli Zombie 07-26-2009 01:35 PM

Another wasted pitching effort I see.
1 ****in hit. Who's pitching today? Walter Johnson? Sandy Koufax? Bob Gibson?
HIT THE ****ING BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile, while you are amazed at the Royals lack of baseball aptitude, us Royals fans just silently give a knowing grimace.

You must not have watched the Padres play this season. They are hitting .230 as a team.

Reaper16 07-26-2009 02:13 PM

Royals bullpen. Savor it, folks. It always goes down smooth.

sportsman1 07-26-2009 02:18 PM

Go to hell Callasspo! Two key errors in 3 games. If the bullpen's not bad enough we will surely blow the game on errors.

Yeah, that one wasn't that bad of an error. He completely lost the ball in the sun until it was too late.

No.. I have been there before.. I would get lucky, and make the catch but.. the timing couldn't have been poorer. Led to three runs.

KC is going to lose 100 games because of their bullpen. There needs to be some turnover, soon.

You forgot about their inability to hit, field, or run the bases.

Andrew Jones lingering way too far of 1st base, and gets thrown out from Buck.

The game is over, Coach. No sense giving live updates on a replay.

tk13 07-26-2009 04:14 PM

Really, at this point putting TPJ in the bullpen couldn't be a downgrade. It's that bad. I'm half kidding, but something has to be done soon. If there are guys in the minors they don't want to rush or bring up because of 40 man roster reasons, okay, but really we could probably start bringing in street FA's and they could do what our bullpen is doing now, maybe someone would catch on.

Tiger's Fan 07-26-2009 04:15 PM

The Royals have the fundementals of a Herm coached team. (none)

And who the **** could stomach watching a replay of this shit?

As my son and I watched the game today, I guaranteed him there was at least one guy in the crowd that could pitch better than any of our middle relievers, and probably more than one. I still feel right about this.

The problem here is management. Nothing more. It all begins with Glass, Moore, and Hillman.

Every year I get to the point where I just start almost rooting for the Royals to lose. It's like, if they're going to stink at least stink in the most terrible fashion. At least then they can't put on some charade they're competing.

i had a sign at the game that said "hey hillman, can i pitch the 8th?" but he went with juan cruz instead. :(
