From everything I've read they don't have the license to any of the toho characters other than Godzilla but do have some kind of deal in the works if a sequel happens.

The problem is it's sammitched' in between other nerd movies like Spiderman 2 and the new X-Men flick. X-Men will surely pull from the Godzilla numbers...

Because of some of the quick cuts there's no guarantee that shot is directly related to the one that came before or after.

The only reason I'd see for guys parachuting in would be no safe place to land due to the destruction...

Super spoiler warning...

Why did Edwards chose Hamburg for presenting 20 minutes from the hotly anticipated new movie Godzilla? Apparently not for marketing reasons. Gareth Edwards personally decided on Hamburg for nostalgic reasons, since his directorial debut Monsters premiered in Hamburg for the Fantasy Film Festival in 2010.

Spoiler!

Quote:

Gareth Edwards also mentioned being a huge fan of Pacific Rim and Guillermo del Toro, who told Edwards how much he enjoyed Monsters. According to Edwards, they have met before and are exchanging ideas constantly. Just think of a crossover: Godzilla vs Gipsy Danger! The rumor mill starts here… Edwards stressed that his monsters will be more detailed than the ones in Pacific Rim thanks to Weta.

Wow, there's a lot of stuff in that. One thing I really took away from that is that thing that people suggested was a tentacle picking up a bomb is apparently not that at all. So then what is it? The first thing I thought of when I saw that is Mechagodzilla. I wonder if this will be something related to that? Of course I could be way off.

I gotta admit, the hype is completely getting to me. I went from not even realizing this movie was coming out this year, to "meh, Godzilla", to "this could really be awesome".

With two young boys, I'll add it to my list of movies to see if the reviews (Rotten Tomatoes and you guys, not "movie critics") don't crush it. There are quite a few movies to see this year, htough, and X-Men comes out in the same timeframe I believe, so...

I'll probably hit the midnight showing and post as soon as I get home.

I wouldn't go by the BO#'s alone because like you said the X-Men will likely ruin it's numbers as soon as it opens...

So another monster in this movie was inspired by creatures in Starship Troopers? So what? Some of the creature designs in Starship Troopers were awesome. Godzilla himself was inspired by The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.

This could also be another case of smaller monsters that were "attached" to the larger monster. For example;

- The Shockirus, aka giant sea louse, from Godzilla 1984
- The "ticks" from Cloverfield
- The Symbiotic Legion from Gamera 2: Advent of Legion

This only piques my interest more.

Ok, so after reading this thread, I decided to check out the original Godzilla, or Gojira (1954). This is the original Japanese one with subtitles. I thought it was a pretty good flick. Very somber and real drama, not camp. :thumb:

So can someone tell me is the American version of 1956 the same story only with American actors?

Essentially yes, Raymond Bur (aka Perry Mason), plays an American reporter in Tokyo when Godzilla attacks. Piss poor editing and less somber story. Watch if you want to but you're not missing anything if you don't watch it.

And now GAMERA!!!

Now news of a new Gamera movie!!

http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2014/0....html?spref=fb

Quote:

While Legendary Pictures is finishing up on their production of a 60th anniversary Godzilla film here in the states back in Japan Kadokawa studios is in the early stages of production on a 50th anniversary Gamera movie. The plans for this new film were revealed recently when the Japanese retailer Amiami listed an advertisement for the upcoming Summer issue of Newtype magazine that has the exclusive scoop on the details. The issue will reportedly contain storyboard images and other pre-production art. Until now a 50th anniversary Gamera film had been speculated but not confirmed.

In recent years Kadokawa has shown a great interest in resurrecting the fantasy film franchises' of Daiei starting with 2010's 'Daimajin Kanon, a television drama based on the studio's Daimajin trilogy produced in the late 1960s.

Many fans of the Japanese giant monster genre (kaiju-eiga) consider Kadokawa's three Heisei era (1995 - 1999) to be the best ever produced. That being said the last Gamera movie, the 2006 release 'Gamera: The Brave' failed to recapture that glory. It will be interesting to see just what Kadokawa will have up it's sleeve to try and keep pace with Legendary's 'Godzilla' and the new bread of Kaiju films being produced in Japan as of late.

True, but the Kadokawa Gamera movies of the 90's were some the best kaiju movies ever made. Willing to bet it will only released in Japan, but still a guy can hope.

Godzilla's second trailer really burned the competition in its first week.

The preview for the reboot of the famous flame-spewing lizard drew 26.3 million YouTube views in its debut, according to technology firm Zefr, which tracks the numbers.
Those first-week numbers crushed the opening weeks of other big-budget movies coming this spring and summer. For example, the Amazing Spider-Man 2's trailer did 19.7 million first-week views, the best among the trio of 2014 Marvel comics-based movies.

Reporters with the IGN website said they saw the movie and gave a few minor spoilers.

“Godzilla himself is 350 feat high, making him the biggest Godzilla yet seen onscreen,” IGN wirtes. “It’s also about a family that’s torn apart by an apparent natural disaster that took place in Japan 15 years ago,” it continues.

IGN also said that it learned “a plot point that makes the film 400% more awesome, but Gareth swore us all to secrecy so we’re not going to spoil it here.”

Nice.

New images/clips.

I'm geeked about this summer. There's at least 1 movie I want to see every month for the next 5 months...:)

keg in kc 03-18-2014 07:15 PM

I'm crazy hyped for both this and Captain America 2.

(It's still nuts to me that they've turned Captain America into a viable movie franchise.)

mr. tegu 03-18-2014 09:24 PM

I will be shocked if this movie isn't awesome on some level.

Hammock Parties 03-19-2014 10:01 AM

Saw that in the trailer. I think the most intriguing thing will be if they stick to the "standard" Godzilla cannon or try to move into a different direction.

They're one evolution of the "MUTOS."

The director already confirmed there are no ToHo monsters in this first film...

Ceej 03-19-2014 11:17 AM

FWIW, 360 owners - there's a movie app on your dashboard called Crackle. Download it and it has 5-6 free Godzilla movies.

Some of these are so bad. LMAO

70's acting and plot with 90's 2nd rate CGI and suits...

Jerm 03-19-2014 11:42 AM

At least GINO gets his in that... :D

Ceej 03-19-2014 11:45 AM

I actually think that one is next in line.

It might get accidentally skipped.

Oh, it's definitely worth it from a MST300 perspective...

Its not exclusive to xbox owners. Anyone with crackle can view them.

Okay.

I had never heard of Crackle. Nor did I say it was 360 exclusive.

That wasn't what I meant. I was just making sure everyone knew it was available no matter what you were on using Crackle. I'm sure most would have figured as much.

Still had one of the best movie lines ever though; "Listen kid, there are two things you didn't know about the Earth. One is me. And the other is... Godzilla."

Who knew Saddam Hussein starred in a Godzilla movie!?

ThaVirus 04-06-2014 01:22 PM

Here's another extended look. I get more and more excited with every clip.

There's a great shot of the head of one of the monsters at around 2:20. For anyone that's played the Final Fantasy series, it reminded me of Bahamut.

I am not sure what those guys that are dropping in with the red smoke behind them are supposed to be doing, but I am going to go ahead and guess it doesn't end well for them.

Much like the trailers, that looks like everything I wanted Pacific Rim to be but wasn't.

MUTO from clip looks and sounds too much like Cloverfield to me but quality was so low it's hard to tell.

Big G looks bad ass other than the elephant-feet...
