And remember before the Blues new ownership, the old Blues owner had the GM trade Pronger and basically abandoned the team.

what type of system do they run? (not being a dick) I thought they just go with "Get it in the zone & throw it at the net". I didn't think they ran puck possession or dump & chase..

Is it the money or is it that big named players don't want to go there.

I thought by system, you meant minor league wise, my bad. I honestly don't know.

And I think it's more money than big named players not wanting to go there. Kariya was signed in '07 and I consider him a big name.

Peter Forsberg to announce retirement
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=6121071

DENVER -- Colorado Avalanche forward Peter Forsberg is retiring from the NHL after playing in just two games during his latest comeback.
A chronic foot ailment cut short Forsberg's career. He made a brief return in 2008 and didn't play in the NHL again until this month. After a visa delay, he took the ice in just two games, scoring no points, before deciding to call it a career.

The former league MVP will hold a news conference Monday afternoon before the team's game against the Calgary Flames.

Just one week ago, Forsberg signed a $1 million deal to play the rest of the season for the team he helped lead to two Stanley Cup titles.

Forsberg was arguably the best two-way player in the NHL during his heyday, leading the Avalanche to Stanley Cup titles in 1996 and 2001, and earning both the Hart Trophy and league MVP in 2003.

He started having problems with his right foot over the next few years and ended up going back to his native Sweden after appearing in nine regular-season games and seven postseason games in 2007-08. Forsberg played for his hometown club MoDo the past couple of years and his foot held up enough that he decided to give the NHL another shot.

After his immigration issues were cleared up, Forsberg played in games at Nashville and Columbus, both losses. Monday was supposed to mark his home debut.

That shutout loss sucked last night but late goal to get the 1pt was huge.

It's funny how close the Kings are to the division lead (1pt i think?) when they were the 12 seed 5 days ago.

I also love the Kings being my "home" team now that I'm living in Vegas. They're always on TV.

One good thing for the Blues is they have 2-3 games in hand against just about everyone, but yes losing Halak hurts. Their backup is decent though.

SAN FRANCISCO – Avalanche has traded Kevin Shattenkirk and Chris Stewart and a second-round pick to St. Louis for Erik Johnson, Jay McClement and a first-round pick this year or next.

No. He is injured sometimes(he got injured by a a ******* golf cart two years ago) and has inconsistent play. I'm thrilled, though. Gonna miss Jay, but we have SOB(Sobotka)! Going to be interesting to see how the team reacts to this. Trading Brewer and EJ in a span of 13 hours is huge.

I hate that Hiller is hurt, it's no surprise. Caryle is like Herm Edwards was to running backs.

I can't stand Curtis McElhinney, Ducks fans swear by him but he's ****ing garbage. I want to see the young German get in there tonight to be honest for us. See what he has.

Holy shit.

Hadn't been paying much attention the past few days, and the Blues deal off two of their D-men.

Let's just say that Armstrong >>>>>>>>>Pleau.

I'm a little disappointed we couldn't have gotten more than a prospect for Brewer, at least we got something for him. If Beukeboom turns out to be half the player his old man was, it's a great deal for us.

I had a sneaking suspicion EJ was out the door for the right price - and I have no ****ing clue what Colorado was thinking, but Stewart and Shattenkirk is definitely the right price. GREAT deal, IMO. Maybe EJ just needed a change of scenery, and if so, then the deal definitely evens up a bit. But the kid just never clicked in STL.

Who's next? Boyes? Jackman?

Army said after the Brewer trade(on an interview, anyways) that the team is focusing on more hockey trades. By that, he said he meant less trades for picks but more for prospects and players. After I listened to it(and it was a few hours before the trade), I wasn't that shocked that EJ was gone.

From Yahoo!:
Quote:

The Scott Stevens saga ends after 2 decades.
Blues trade 5 first round draft picks to Washington for Scott Stevens.
Blues lose Scott Stevens in arbitration for signing Brendan Shanahan.
Blues trade Brendan Shanahan for Chris Pronger.
Blues trade Chris Pronger for Eric Brewer.
Blues trade Eric Brewer for a young guy in the OHL and a yet to be determined 3rd round draft pick.
That means the Blues traded Brewer for guys who may never play an NHL game, which would finally shut the book on a strange series of events that began over 20 years ago.
And that is false. They won the President's cup in '99 and lost in the Western Conference finals against the Avs I think in '01.

Partially that, I think. And he regressed this year. I think he'll be a very good defenseman, but won't live up to the billing of being the first overall pick.
