And you're coming off like a douche bag because you think you are king of the world for having an ounce of self control in your life.

We are glad you don't get so drunk you don't have to call your mom because you are scared.

Why relaying experience about diet information has to come with some hilarious soapbox nobody will ever know.

I don't think I'm the king of shit. I wanted to share this amazing video I saw with everyone, and then everyone told me I was wrong, which I'm not.

Good night.

If we really want to get down to what "science" has really proven about weight loss it is pretty simple. Take in less calories per day than your burn and you will lose weight.

I have seen same size bodybuilders who eat tons of carbs and those who eat barely any. Manipulating your diet to lose weight is generally up to you.

I personally like the low carb approach when I lose weight and those who say eating tons of fat is bad for you haven't read the research. That being said, I have seen tons of guys who get shredded and eat very little fat and mostly carbs/protein.

It's not 100% about weight loss. It's about what is good for your body, regardless of what you weigh.

No, you are right to a point. Refined sugar definitely should be avoided for the most part, although I myself am not perfect either!

I was just making the point for those that are trying to lose weight, make it simple. Less calories in than you are burning. It doesn't have to be avoiding all carbs and what not. I know, probably a topic for a different thread. :)

Also R8ers lost a bunch of weight and got healthy doing the same thing.

Maybe they don't want to accept facts from people they just don't like....or a Chargers fan.

This drives me crazy. I've been doing Paleo for a while (not all that strict, but I'm doing it) & I've had great results: (lost 15 lbs that I didn't realize I had to spare, totally clear complexion, more energy, etc) I try not to talk much about it unless someone asks, but I've found that it really upsets people that I don't eat the same shit that they eat. family & friends are constantly cracking on my "weird" diet.

The other thing that makes me want to snap is when people say, "You're so lucky to be thin & fit." Hey, reerun, I work out every day & I pay attention to what I eat. Go have another Big Mac & a Twinky.

I have trouble doing traditional IF because sometimes I am hungry in the morning and sometimes at night. I usually don't eat lunch. It's hard to do 16/8 when you don't eat lunch. I could do 23/1.

I fast completely every friday. Don't eat from about 6 pm Thursday until around 9 or 10 am on Saturday. That really flushes out a lot of the sodium I eat during the week. I like doing it and it doesn't bother me.

I also love how when I sit down to a meal where I'm actually splurging and eat whatever the hell I want (and I can eat a lot) people are like "how do you stay so fit and eat like that?"

"Well, those are the first calories I've had in 24 hours. That's how. While you were eating Krispy Kremes, my body was eating fat, tubby".

Your biggest critics in life are the ones who can't do what it is you're doing to be successful. No matter what the things you're doing, may be.

Some of my biggest critics about my business are the ones who still work for someone else, NTTAWW working for someone else, but you catch my drift...

Sugar re: Insulin spikes: Sugar isn't the only thing that spikes insulin. Bread does it even more than sugar. Protein spikes insulin, especially whey protein. Insulin is just a storage hormone. It makes things happen. Spiking it is neither good nor bad. It just is what it is.

Built up shit in your intestines? I thought we were past this nonsense already.

I've recently given up all soda. I'd only drunk diet for years, but for a diabetic, some research suggesting that fake sweet is as bad as real sugar - supposedly it tricks the body into thinking it's real sugar. So the doc challenged me to drop the soda altogether and see what my sugars do...

You can't eat 2000 calories of table sugar, that was his point.

2000 calories of table sugar is about 2 and half cups. If you ate that for breakfast, you'd be hungry again by about 10am and you'd be ready to kill somebody for some food by dinner time.

In order to actually be SATED, you'd have to eat 6-8000 calories of table sugar EVERY DAY.

So back to his point - if you eat a sensible amount of calories, it's almost impossible to "overdose" on the stuff that's bad for you.

2,000 calories of sugar isn't sustainable on an every day basis, for a multitude of reasons.

Drinking lots of water makes you feel full and curbs your appetite.

Its like preeching about religion or telling a drug addict to get off drugs. THEY WONT DO IT UNLESS THEY ARE READY.

I know what your trying to do is positive, but face it, people dont give a shit about it really. Cig smokers know cigs cause cancer, but guess what? they smoke anyways.

Its ok, to put shit out there, but trying so hard just annoys people and in the process you get upset.

There are 84g of sugar in a pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Most other ice cream has less.

There are 46g of sugar in a single can of Mt. Dew. I work with people who go through 4-6 cans of Mt. Dew every day. And eat greasy fried crap. And eat candy. And eat other shit with sugar.

No, eating a cup of ice cream each day won't kill you. Downing 4 cans of Mt. Dew per day and then gorging on other shit will.

Exactly. But then, if you're doing all of that, you're not adhering to a moderate level of caloric intake, either.

Personally, I aim for 120g of protein per day (usually more, sometimes less), and then let the rest of the calories fall where they may. Lately, I've wanted ice cream, so that's what I eat.

Silock, I'm willing to bet that maybe about 2-3% of all the people on here are as fit as you. Maybe 5% max. If I ate a cup of ice cream a day I would be ****ed.

Who warped your mind into thinking like this?

Yes, but I was referring to the last part. You can have your cup of ice cream and be fine. Calories in vs. Calories out is what matters most. A cup of ice cream is fine as long as your also eating the right things during the day and you're not just laying on the couch 24/7.

There are different body types, people... jesus. One size doesn't fit all. Some people have to overcome genetics to be lean.

You haven't been paying attention to anything I've been saying about my diet apparently.

I think what he is saying is that just because your diet is obviously working, it isn't the only way to lose weight. Calories in vs calories out. Some people can eat ice cream and lose weight, as they are burning calories through the day either through a physical job or working out like a machine.

I was cutting with 3,000 calories when I was super active and Olympic lifting everyday for 2 years. I could eat plenty of food and actually had to eat plenty of carbs just to meet my calories so I didn't lose weight too fast.

And the video I posted says that calories in vs out isn't it. The lady scientist says that sugar calories aren't the same.

I don't think anyone watched the video. Of course you don't have to take it for fact, but nobody has even mentioned it.

Here is the average CP'ers idea of drinking in moderation.

So yeah, I'd like to know what 'in moderation' equals. Seems like it could vary from person to person and opinion to opinion. What if somebody DID have a sugar addiction and they simply want to try to cut it out of their life, is that entirely bad? I think that was what Buck was after here.

I don't think that's accurate. I've never read anything showing sugar or HFCS to have more than 4 calories per gram. Your body eventually breaks down all carbohydrates to their basic components. Sugar is no different.

Buck 04-03-2012 11:03 PM

Are you familiar with GI?

That's what makes it different.

Don't tell me eating 1 oz of chicken is the same as eating 1 oz of sugary candy.

Simply Red 04-03-2012 11:08 PM

I'm sure that I was one of the biggest sugar abusers on CP. I've got to eliminate sweets now, it sucks and no not everyone has to, but I'm thinking I'm needing to. I'm in a war and Sugar is Charlie.

The China Study was an amazing report... the documentary Knives over Forks talks about it... and how various sections of China was prone to different types of cancer over a 30 year span... and they did a huge collaboration with Chinese and US doctors and researchers on the various effects of diet. It was fascinating.

But, since I'm losing weight and stuff... I shouldn't share this knowledge... because it makes me a douche for sharing this stuff... A big fat douche

Silock 04-03-2012 11:12 PM

GI is irrelevant in normal functioning adults. Even if insulin is raised high at a certain point during the day, if calories remain low thereafter, so will insulin, as fat is oxidized for energy needs.

So, if you eat 1600 calories worth of candy and that's all you eat that day, it will provide the same amount of energy as 4 400 calorie meals of protein spaced out through the day, despite the candy skyrocketing insulin at one point in the day.

considering I know someone who beat cancer by prayer, juice fasts and alternative medicine - I don't think that about this/you.
