Forgot how much this album kicked ass.

A little proggy metal out of Fayetteville, though Seb (the singer/guitarist) is now at school up the art institute in KC (he does their killer artwork), so they may start gigging up there.

Loving this release. The dark, minimalist beats alone are worth it, but are complimented nicely by the beauty of her voice.

Soooo, I'm pretty stuck on this album. It's just goddamn good. I didn't know how I felt about the Reflektor single when it first dropped; but this whole album has so many kick-ass songs.

'Normal Person' is probably my favorite at the moment.

It's a close second to Funeral in their discography for me right now. I don't know though. The more I listen to this, the more I think it might be their best yet.

It hasn't grabbed me yet after 4 or so listens. I imagine it will, but currently it doesn't have that operatic feel that I loved so much about Funeral. I'll keep listening, though, as sometimes AF albums take a while to sink in.

Current favorite: "Here Comes the Night Time."

I've been through it about seven or eight times now. It will absolutely grab you at some point. I was driving back from Iowa last night and gave it another listen; because, like you it wasn't really grabbing me as much as I that an AF album should.

Something clicked last night though. I've listened to it three times since then.

Easily bolted ahead of Neon Bible and The Suburbs for me. It's just so damn eclectic and enjoyable to listen to.

Maybe I'm just in the right mood, but this Death Grips album is less abrasive and more "listenable" than their others. Like I'm kind of nodding my head happily and not feeling the desire to go strangle someone.

NewChief 11-13-2013 11:30 PM

I've only listened to it 1 more time since last time. Been listening to way more electronic/ambient/chill because I'm in the midst of grading a shit ton of papers (I have a hard time with lyrics/singing while grading). I need a good road trip to break it out on.

I don't know why I've slept on Lonerism by Tame Impala for over a year; but I'm finally getting into listening to it. And yeah, it's such a fun album. Goddamn, I enjoy it. I'm sure it would be a fantastic listen stoned, but I'm enjoying it sober all the same.

January haul:

Cave State 7" - SoCal PV dubbed as the future.
Jarhead Fertilizer/Purge split 7" - Avant-garde grindcore.
Gripe - In His Image 12" - Few things are more punk than breaking up before your first album drops. 2nd tier grindcore that likely won't get much play. Killer artwork though.
Tinnitus - Volume II 7" - D-beat Boston hardcore. $6.66 got me the 7", a back patch, a poster, and a button (hopefully some stickers). No brainer.
Draize 7" - Boston hardcore put out by the drummer from KC's Spine.
Fissure 7" - Soul soothing SoCal PV.

I'm spending the next couple of weekends updating my catalog to Discogs.

NewChief 02-04-2014 08:25 AM

Another former student band. The artwork is just a bit Baizley influenced, heh. Artist (and bassist in this band) is actually at KC Art Institute studying currently. This album is actually really freaking good. I'm proud of these boys. Seems like just yesterday they were sitting around a table in my room at lunch playing Dungeons and Dragons. Hard to reconcile that image with the fully badass sludge they're producing now.

The first track from Agalloch's new album, The Serpent and the Sphere was recently released. I'm not disappointed because it's a shitty song (it's rather good), but because it seems too generic, as though put through a formulaic construction of previous Agalloch material.

Listening to the new Swans album streaming over at NPR. It's just as awesome, unsettling, and terrifying as the Seer.

I was viewing the Goblin Shark thread while listening, and I had to check myself as I started disassociating.

NewChief 05-13-2014 08:39 AM

Still listening to the new Swans album. For my money, it's infinitely more listenable than the Seer, which I appreciated but didn't find myself going back to over and over as it was exhausting and challenging.

The fact that this album is more listenable may be a knock against it, I don't know, but I'm enjoying the hell out of it.
