So what happened to Taylor Kitsch? I Thought Singer was supposed to be big on retaining the continuity of these films?

He showed up in too many shitty movies.

Kitsch is poison, even though he makes a more convincing Gambit than Tatum. I'm okay with the casting, it depends which direction they go with the movie. I don't think he can pull off a cajun accent worth a shit though so they'll probably Americanize him. The Xmen franchise needs to be given back to Marvel.

ThaVirus 05-13-2014 01:56 PM

X Men has been the worst as far as staying true to comics. I have no hope that they'll do Gambit justice.

ThaVirus 05-13-2014 01:57 PM

I'm also getting the sinking feeling that this movie will suck. I'm crossing my fingers hoping I'm wrong..

Aries Walker 05-13-2014 02:12 PM

I think of all of the upcoming non-Marvel Marvel movies, it has the best chance to be good, but I have that reservation as well.

Oddly, I watched the 1st film this morning, not even thinking about the new one coming out just around the corner. I enjoyed First Class and actually have been more excited about DoFP than any of the others in the franchise. I'm hoping they didn't bite off more than they can chew and stuffed it all in when a 2 film approach would have been the proper way to go.

I'll be honest - I really hope the cast from 1st Class is most of this film.

By far the better actors as well as characters.

I was not a fan of singer coming back and after the tone set in 1st Class would have preferred Matthew Vaughn.

I know, I know, but Singer's X-Men have not held up well over time and he absolutely sodomizes the history, characters, and continuity to make his flicks.

I'm in, and only in, because the money/actors/production are 100% behind this...

from what ive read, it is mostly the First Class cast. With Hugh Jackman of course....LOL

Vaughn was still involved a little bit i think. I agree, i thought Vaughn did the best job of any of them.

Deberg_1990 05-21-2014 11:32 AM

Heh, that Honest trailer thing brought up a great point. So the XMen exist in the same universe as other Marvel heroes? If so, why do other heroes get cheered and mutants get looked down upon? and how are mutant powers any different than other heroes superpowers?
Posted via Mobile Device

ThaVirus 05-21-2014 12:27 PM

I'd say it's because mutants are born with the X gene while the others in the Marvel universe are most often mutates that obtained their powers via some freak accident or what have you.

Apparently more and more people are being born with the X gene and it's being seen as an evolution thing. Eventually, the mutants will "take over" as the dominant species.

The Franchise 05-21-2014 01:03 PM

It may be stupid....but the whole X-men costume thing has always bothered me in the movies. Put them in their actual ****ing costumes, damnt!

The issue squarely rests on the fact that some of the costumes would look ridiculous in a live action film. Even Superman's is tough to not end up looking gay- Batman's is probably the easiest.

Aries Walker 05-21-2014 01:57 PM

Modern, armored Batman, yes. 60's - or better yet, 40's - Batman, no better than any other set of tights. And yeah, tights look ridiculous in most cases, as if the would-be bank robber is suddenly confronted by an Olympic bicycle racer.

I always thought the best looking on film was the Shadow. The cape over the trenchcoat, with the wide-brimmed fedora, is a brilliantly classy look.

ThaVirus 05-21-2014 02:03 PM

Tights aren't incredibly terrible all the time. I've never thought Spider-Man looked campy.

I agree that the X Suits look bad, even in First Class, but I'm just not sure how they could modernize them without making them look like tools.

Now everyone will go in with inflated expectations and be letdown not because it's not a good film but unrealistic preconceived notions.

Last film with this much acclaim that lived up to it was TDK, and that's a lofty bar to set.

I know I've been more interested in seeing this than any other X men film by a wide margin.

As a general rule, 3D sucks, but I really want to see this in the Prime Theater at Barrywoods, so I'll have to suck it up.

I do too.

It just so happened that when I hit my pre-teen/teen years the best writers in the Comix biz were working on Hulk and X-Men. That's what I became a fan of.

My wet dream would be Chris Claremont scripting an X-Men movie and Peter David writing the next Hulk film.

Why not?

Frank Miller did it...

I watched in IMAX 3D, and came away with a very different opinion. While I don't think it was bad, the 3D in Godzilla was very subtle and mostly provided depth. It was nice, but it was also rather forgettable. I saw CA2 in the same theater and also came away with a much better impression, especially in his "before the window" scoring category.

I'll be seeing Xmen in 3D this weekend mainly because that's my only option for a large screen, but it will be RPX D3D instead of IMAX 3D. I hope it's not as bad as this reviewer experienced, considering I didn't think Godzilla was nearly as good as his experience either.

Outside of Avatar, I haven't seen a film yet that I thought was worth the 3d I paid for. Tron used 3d badly. Thor was decent but nothing great. Amazing Spiderman was meh. Gravity was cool in 3d but being a 90 minute movie I ultimately felt ripped off.

Pretty much my thoughts on it. Its basically become a money grab. The modern 3D is technically great. So much better than the old blue/red frames. But its just a gimmick. A good film doesn't need 3D. 3D might make a bad film more enjoyable I suppose.....

What's bad is, alot of the premium theaters with large screens are only offering showings in 3D. Why? So they can get that extra $3 or $4 surcharge.

No 3D and a budget showing before noon. KC does early morning budget movies and I would kill for topeka to do that.

I mean, I get it. 3D is a business decision mostly. It's here to stay if for no other reason than that. I just wish theaters would offer a few showings in IMAX or premium big screens like RPX in 2D as well. The bigger screens already have a surcharge anyways.

Wow, I'm surprised they showed that?

Anyong Bluth 05-23-2014 05:12 PM

Just picked up a perfect spot reserved seat for the late showing in the new Showplace IconX theaters here.

They have extra large screen, premium doublewide highback leather reclining seats, picture is in 4k, and Dolby's new Atmos surround setup- it handles up to 128 speakers placed all over the theatre to give a true surround sound field vs a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker setup. And, yes, this movie has been mixed specifically for Atmos, so it's not just upconverting based on the normal 8 tracks most films only have for a 7.1 presentation!!!

I'm almost as excited about where I'm seeing it as I am that I've been geeking to see this flick for well over a year!
