I agree with you they should move it back but if they aren't going to do that might as well try something else.

Or get rid of it and make the PAT an automatic 2-point try.

BigMeatballDave 12-07-2012 02:44 PM

No reason to get rid of the PAT because it's a safe play. Minimal risk for injury.

That's a good point. We don't want anybody getting a skinned knee or anything.

Eliminate it make every TD require a 2-point play or I guess you could have them try the EP from 30-35 yds

That's certainly a viable alternative.

I just don't get the outrage over KICKOFFS.

People bitch about kickers all the time. FG suck. Touchbacks suck.

But when they propose replacing the kickoff, people go all "bah, what are they doing? next thing you know they'll get rid of leather helmets."

It's silly.

As a completely ironic aside, I think if they went back to having no helmets we might see the concussion problem go down. I think the awesome helmets lead players to hit with their heads more often.

BigMeatballDave 12-07-2012 02:53 PM

I'd be in favor of scraping the PAT for the 2-pointer.

BigMeatballDave 12-07-2012 02:56 PM

I also think there should be different scoring for varying lengths of FGs.

Actually, I agree with that 100%.

I really, really wish they would roll back some of the rules that are ruining the game.

This. But I think some lawyers might have had a little say in scaring them into some of their decisions... But they still suck!

Leather helmets.

Goodell doesn't really have much of an option here. The lawsuits are already coming in, and public opinion isn't going to improve when we see guys committing suicide left and right. He might be forced to change by the legal community.

If you want to fix soccer, just eliminate the offside rule, and things will get much better IMO. The one thing that kills most folks about soccer is the lack of scoring. We may not need to to be like basket ball and have a score every 12 seconds, but letting folks hang close, but out of the goal areas (but it'd be fine to be inside the penalty box), would go a long way to making the game better. Once again, just my opinion..

Offside isn't called that often and it is in place for organized offense. You think they put it in there for no reason? It encourages creative offensive movement.

Meh...

The level of offense AND defense goes up and down when you talk about different levels of quality. Bad defensive blunders can lead to a lot of goals between teams of low quality.

Why would you want to reward a team for not getting close to the endzone?

Raiders would just have Janikowki boot it from 50 every drive.

By the time Goodall is through, it's very possible they'll have to change the name of the game to "Throwball".

That is not it at all.

I think it would be interesting if FGs of over 55 yards were worth 4 pts.

And FGs of less than 25 yards would be worth only 2.

FGs and XP totals configured to yardage from the goal line.

1-9: 1 point for kick, two points for a touched down.
10-20: 2 points for both kick and touch.
21-29: 3 points for both
30-39: 4 points for both
40-49: 5 points for both
50+: 6 points.

Reason you adjust the points for a "2pt conversion" is that it leaves fake FGs as a viable strategy, possibly opens up for rugby-esque type runs or more hook and lateral plays.
