First, why would Kaepernick throw into double coverage and throw where the best cornerback in the NFL is covering your receiver? Arrogance? Stupidity? What could you prove - That you are better than he is? You are not, and you are not going to beat him.

Here is the last play before the interception:

Quote:

1-10-SEA 18 (:30) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 7-C.Kaepernick pass deep right intended for 15-M.Crabtree INTERCEPTED by 53-M.Smith (25-R.Sherman) at SEA 0. Touchback. PENALTY on SEA-25-R.Sherman, Taunting, 10 yards, enforced at SEA 20.
1st & 10 on SEA 18 yard line with 30 seconds to go and two or three-timeouts left. Why would you throw into the end zone on 1st down? Kaepernick already had three fourth-quarter turnovers.

49ers deserve to lose the game and Sherman has every right to shove it right back in their face.

Arrogance, stupidity - And a clueless offensive coordinator.

Kaepernick has proved repeatedly that he is not a clutch quarterback. Something you cannot teach.

They clearly do not deserve to advance to the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs need 2 Richard Shermans on defense and ATLEAST one on offense.

Richard Sherman is, in fact, the best corner in the NFL.

Is kaep like your least favorite player? FWIW, he didn't throw into double coverage. Yes it ultimately was a bad play, but Sherman made an outstanding play there. They gambled on trying to hit quick instead of let SEA set their defense. They gambled and lost. If Kaep gets another few feet on that throw, Crab is the only one that can make a play. Anyways, tell GB and CAR about how "not clutch" he is. The dude is young. He's played 1.5 seasons and was 20 yds away from his 2nd Super Bowl.

It happens all the time in MMA. They pretty much always have something respectful to say to the loser after the fight no matter how bad of blood there was betweeen them. Having someone push you to your limits should gain you at least some level of respect for them.

The 9ers went in and played a heck of a game in a tough environment. What Sherman did was classless.

BryanBusby 01-20-2014 05:56 AM

I think it's hilarious people are judging Sherman without having the ability to know if Crabtree was provoking it.

So what you are saying is that Crabtree got inside the head of the guy who is supposed to be THE best CB in the NFL?

And BTW, had Kaeperneck put just a little more air on the ball we would be talking about how "the greatest got torched".

I'm not asking for choir boys.....but I am also not in favor of turning our team into the Raiders.

You can play well and not act like an ass in prime time. Sherman is the best in the business, but he also showed a lack of class.

I want to win...but not at the cost of having a team of classless people. If Sherman comes out and apologizes and says, "man I shouldn't have said that at the time the heat of the moment got to me" then I can understand. But quite frankly all he did was put a bull's-eye on himself.

Sherman isn't nasty or angry.

He's an egotistical prick.

He's also exceptionally gifted in terms of his size, speed and football acumen. He's 6'3", 200 lbs. and is a world class/All-American level hurdler and triple jump track star. He's also a former WR. (Was named a Freshman All-American at WR at Stanford before switching over to DB due to an injury.)

He's one of those guys who, after the draft, you look and say "How the hell did Richard Sherman last until the fifth round?" Here was a guy with every tool, was successful in a BCS conference and was the best player on the defense of a 12-1 team.

Every team in the league had a shot at drafting Richard Sherman. Now he's a defensive version of Tom Brady - there is a real big chip on the guy's shoulder - maybe the biggest in a league full of big chips.

Let's be honest, Seattle's defense is full of guys every team in the league had a shot at. Pete Carroll knows what he doing and also the fact that the best players there play and money and draft status don't matter much is how guys like Malcolm Smith and Bobby Wagner kicked Aaron Curry's ass out of the way.

For as good a players as Derrick Johnson and Eric Berry are or Tamba Hali is or Justin Houston is, none of them have that attitude. That doesn't discount them as players but as long as you lack that you are lacking a big part of what it takes.

Dislike Richard Sherman all you want but the attitude he brings is what makes Seattle a championship team instead of a good team.

Sure he was. Sherman went off in that interview because of a pre-game comment by Crabtree.

But the game is over, you won and you still have a game to play.

Sherman is nothing more than an egotistical, loudmouthed prick. And he's "stupid is as stupid does." In two short years, he's already tried to clown/taunt/whatever some of the games greats (Calvin Johnson, Tom Brady, etc.) in an effort to achieve personal recognition.

He's making a huge effort to be self-aggrandizing. It's not "being caught up in the moment" or "plays nasty and mean" or anything that actually has to do with shit on the field. He's just being a douchey troll in an effort to promote himself and his massive ego.

The problem with it is that he plays a position that is, by in and of itself, only successful, at best, about 40% of the time and that has a relatively short shelf life. His antics (and that's exactly what they are - antics) will get old real quick.

He's basically a new version of Cortland Finnegan.

Sure he can, but it doesn't make him any better on the field.

And it sure as shit makes him a lot more douchier off it.

And it puts a target on his back.

And it makes people discount him because he's disrespecting his peers and the game and all the players that came before him.

As I said, he's not being "angry and feisty," he's simply being an egotistical asshat. The vast majority of what he does is long after the play/game is over. He's throwing shit into peoples/other players/the game's face and hoping it sticks for his own benefit/notoriety.

It doesn't matter if he's the best player at his position in the league right now. The guy is an asshole.

I've been saying this for awhile. Lots of talent, but they still seem to lack a killer instinct. They play soft at times.

No, this team needs better talent.

Sherman is one of the best cornerbacks in the league because he's big, has excellent leaping ability, understands the passing game and has real functional speed in pads.

Being a total douchebag after the play doesn't make him a better player on the field, it just makes him a douchebag.

http://www.chicagoparent.com/media/6...r%20payton.jpg

This guy was in the Superbowl because he, like Sherman, was phenomenally talented. And he wasn't a douche, like Sherman is.

Again, what Sherman is doing AFTER THE PLAY has zero effect on his actual performance on the field. He's just being a douche.

Mecca 01-20-2014 10:05 AM

You don't seem to understand that Sherman being a taunting asshole after the play/game was over has nothing to do with what happens on the field.

It just makes him a jerk. It doesn't make him a better player.

If you want to rub one out to a guy being an asshole, then grab the bottle of lotion and go to town. But don't confuse and associate him being an asshole with him being an excellent cornerback or that it has helped Seattle get into the Super Bowl. They are two completely dissociative things.

This is perfect. Who cares if these guys are pricks. We don't know them personnelly.

Would love to have him on the Chiefs.

Me too. Sherman explains it. Good read here...

Not as big of a douche as Floyd Mayweather~

He backs it up. Until he doesn't, meh, I don't care. In fact I sort of like him for the way he demolished Skip Bayless.

There is a big difference...I don't mind an attitude. Kevin Ross played with an attitude and got the work done just as well as Sherman, but he wasn't a jerk.

And let's bring it present.....there are 10 other guys on the SeaHawks team with just the same swagger. I don't recall any of them being mouthy like that.

When you play the game you do it like you have respect for your opponent. I said it once and I will say it again....all he did was put a bull's-eye on himself.

And....this I will repeat.....just a bit more air and we are all talking about how "the best CB in the league" got beat for the winning TD.

I'd rather have a guy with talent.

And that's what Seattle has drafted recently. Look at what they've netted the past three years in the draft:

Russel Okung
Earl Thomas
Golden Tate
Kam Chancellor
James Carpenter
Richard Sherman
Byron Maxwell
Malcom Smith
Bruce Irvin
Bobby Wagner
Russell Wilson
J.R. Sweezy

All of these guys are starters for the Seahawks. That's insane. (And Max Unger was drafted in 2009.)

That's more than half of the team that was drafted in the past three years that's now starting for a Super Bowl team.

Pete Carroll and GM John Schneider have been absolutely amazing in terms of the draft since they took over the reigns of the Seahawks in 2010.

That's the difference.

Not Richard Sherman being an asshole. (And I'm pretty sure that they would love it if Sherman would keep his mouth shut and antics after the game has ended to a minimum. It adds absolutely nothing to the team in terms of success and actually manifests itself as a major PR problem at this point. Dude is just a douche. It has nothing to do with his talent on the field.)

Nice read....but it still doesn't let him off the hook on the choke sign for Kaepernick and bringing himself down to Crabtree's level. When someone is a prick like Crabtree you let his failures speak for themselves not bring yourself down to his level.

Be classy....if you say you are, then you live it.

The only thing Sherman does in that article is throw gasoline onto his massive bonfire of an ego.

If you thought he was an egotistical douchebag right after the game, this confirms it and expands on it exponentially.

What a ****ing bag of shit.

"Class" is the single most boring thing in sports discussion. This is the thread with the highest milquetoast quotient on CP since Three Six Mafia performed on The Oscars.

So what you are saying is that you would gladly give up some semblance of class for a Super Bowl win?

FloridaMan88 01-20-2014 10:43 AM

By all accounts Kendrick Lewis is a classy individual.

Would you want him or Sherman in your secondary?

redfan 01-20-2014 10:46 AM

I wish he was a Chief. Great player.

I want someone who knows how to win...I also want someone who knows how to play the game with a little bit of dignity.

Simplicity 01-20-2014 10:49 AM

He made one play that whole game... Cheers to him.

Mosbonian 01-20-2014 10:52 AM

Let me turn this around a little....

What would all of you be saying if that pass had been caught and Kaepernick or Crabtree had exhibited the same attitude or reaction that Sherman did?

I am betting that many would be berating them....

Mecca 01-20-2014 10:53 AM

Class means jack and shit in my opinion, none of those guys are my friends. All I care about is that they win, that's what matters to me.

And hey I like players who have something to say, entertainment and flash and flare is more entertaining than cliched robots.

What a ****ing bag of shit.

Maybe he is. I'd still take him over ANY one of our corners this year though.

And this is why it doesn't matter, the 49ers spent the entire season doing it, Anquan Boldin did shit like this 10 times a game, so who cares? At least Sherman did it after sending his team to the bowl instead of making a 15 yard catch in week 9 in the 2nd quarter.

But that’s not why I don’t like the man. It goes back to something he said to me this offseason in Arizona, but you’d have to ask him about that
Apparently, he's referring to a charity event last year that Crabtree tried starting a fight with him at.

Quote:

Sherman has been upset with Crabtree since last summer. Both attended Arizona star receiver Larry Fitzgerald’s charity event. While there, Sherman went to shake Crabtree’s hand, and Crabtree tried to start a fight, according to Sherman’s older brother, Branton.

Roddy White burned him for a TD last year in the playoffs and promptly got in his face to let him know. He is still the best and he knows it. Also, he will be playing in the SB in two weeks because of the play we are talking about.

FloridaMan88 01-20-2014 11:00 AM

Sherman will always have my respect after he took down Skip Bayless last spring on ESPN.

"I'm better at life than you".

Epic.

I mean, holy shit.

What a total egotistical prick.

From the article:

Quote:

I threw a choking sign at 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Why? Because he decided he was going to try the guy he was avoiding all game, because, I don’t know, he’s probably not paying attention for the game-winning play. C’mon, you’re better than that.
He throws a choke sign up and then justifies it because Kaepernick had the audacity to actually throw a ball to a receiver covered by him during a game? And he says "C'mon, you're (Kaepernick) better than that."?!?!

Quote:

The first produced a BS holding call against me; the second ended the game. Michael Crabtree stutter-stepped out of his break on first down and sprinted toward the end zone. I was in good position for a pick until he pushed me in the back. My interception became a tip and an interception for Malcolm Smith in the end zone.

Game over. The Seahawks are in the Super Bowl.

The penalty against him was "bullshit," but then he wins the game because of his awesomeness?

Quote:

I ran over to Crabtree to shake his hand but he ignored me. I patted him, stuck out my hand and said, “Good game, good game.”
The game wasn't over yet asshole. You were being an instigating troll prick on purpose just to rub his face in it and nothing more. Nice attempt (and fail to do so) to justify being a prick.

Quote:

To those who would call me a thug or worse because I show passion on a football field—don’t judge a person’s character by what they do between the lines. Judge a man by what he does off the field...
Okay Richard, let's do that...

The Tom Brady taunt, the Andrews interview, etc. You are a total douche off the field. I guess, by your own words, that makes you a total douche. Thanks for confirming that by your own words.

This egotistical cockbag makes Donald Trump and Kanye West look like the most humble men on earth.

Mecca 01-20-2014 11:02 AM

In all reality not throwing on Sherman for the entire game then throwing that pass in that situation is pretty ****ing stupid.
