Let's just hope this is a trial balloon being floated b4 this actually happens and then Reid/Dorsey rethink their strategy.

It is very hard to believe that Reid believes Alex can put the game on his back at anytime, playing big in any big moments because he has never done it in his career except last year and that has Matt Cassel written all over it just like what Matt did when TB went down(flash in the pan) and the only reason Matt/Alex 'flashed' is because of the supreme supporting cast around them.

Now what bothered me today, and maybe some of you can address this more accurately, was, as I was watching the combine today this ticker kept running about Dorsey would just meet the QBs collectively as a group. Really ? No individual interviews ?? If this is true ?

Eh, I don't know if I'd go that far just yet. Maybe you're right and maybe I'm just hoping against hope, but I think there's a possibility that IF, and I do mean IF, we're Alex's landing spot that we could still take Geno. It's not like Dorsey didn't see what Aaron Rodgers could do after a couple of years watching Favre (not that Alex is anywhere near Favreian level of QB), or that Reid couldn't have used more capable backups that last couple of years.....

Well if it makes you feel any better Pioli said no quarterback is worth starting this year.

BradBigglestein 02-24-2013 06:07 PM

If true, this is interesting. Reid likes to throw the ball down field and likes the big play. Alex Smith's weakness is the deep ball, and he's actually a prototypical WCO QB. Short passes, rollouts, etc.

If this goes down, I wonder if Reid goes back to more of a traditional WCO that he got away from in recent years.

Also, Reid is a sneaky guy. If this goes down, I would not put it past him to still draft a QB or even trade out of #1. I know everyone will think Joeckel is the definite pick, and it may be, but Reid always finds a way to surprise.

They really must not like any of these guys.

I hope that if this trade happens, the Chiefs trade out of the #1 spot and load up this year. TE and WR are particularly deep and Alex Smith will need all the help he can get...

The only choice, IMO, that makes any sense is a 4th rounder. They'll have a compensatory 3rd for Carr, so trading their 4th won't hurt them.

2 years. And if we trade for Smith and cut Cassel.....those two moves cost us a total of $12.5 million.

Maybe these two posts go together. Hopefully we expressed interest in Alex at some time, were wowed by Geno with his combine performance, and the Niners are throwing this in the wind to try and lure us back to trading. Hoping against logic here.

This shit doesn't happen if Alex doesn't get injured this year. He would have remained the starter. Maybe the Niners at the end of the year say, "Kaepernick's the guy, Alex" but I don't think they aggressively pursue the trade offers they are right now.
