Any recommended series or graphic novels to pick up?

That said, the Owen Reece angle was interesting. Essential really, looking back on how the story has evolved so far. |
The flash is a great read and loving justice league. justice league united is strange to me.
|
I think Secret Wars is a good culmination to Hickman's Avengers run (and to some extent, everything he's written for Marvel), but not a great event miniseries. And the tie-ins seem largely pointless.

The cross overs I've enjoyed the most are Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars and Giant Size Little Marvel. |

Seige would make the list but the art is so bad it really distracts from the (mostly solid) story... |
anyone reading anything new/newish?
I've been reading Nailbiter in TPB it's pretty........interesting disappointed in the major delays in secret wars for sure |

We Stand On Guard (written by Brian K Vaughn of Saga and Y: The Last Man) is pretty good. |

Secret Wars has been good as a story I guess, but it would appear that they save all the action sequences for the offshoot titles. Not much of anything action wise has happened in the main storyline (the T'Challa angle in the new issue does have promise, though).
You wait and watch - Molecule Man has been "saving" the old realities in some pocket universe with the power of the combined Beyonders, and will let it all lose when Doom pisses him off at some point. That or all the cosmic entities are hiding in that bright room with him, just biding their time when they and MM can strike. |

Also the Ben Grimm stuff |
COMIC BOOK PEOPLE
I just finished volumes 1 & 2 of Injustice: Gods Among Us, which are graphic novels inspired by the video games.
I don't want to give anything away, but I would highly recommend it. The art is fantastic and the storyline is pretty cool. It was great to see Batman being a badass dickhead and an unbound Superman. Superman is so ****ing awesome when he's not holding back. |
Yeah, I liked those a lot more than I thought I would. I second this recommendation.

Did a little traveling this week and got caught up on some stuff.
We Stand On Guard is awesome. Reading Saga on an airplane is hard when you've got a nice little retiree lady doing crosswords next to you and you never know whether the next page will be a robot orgy or not. The Civil War series from Secret Wars was actually really good. Didn't expect that. The Star Wars Shattered Empire weekly is worth it. |

I took saga vol 2 on an airplane myself, not a good idea lol |
Aquaman is ****ing awesome.
I'm currently in the midst of reading his New 52 run. I'm on volume 3 "Throne of Atlantis". The art is incredible. Seriously. Probably the best I've ever seen. And the storylines have been pretty gripping thus far. Atlantis is currently at war with the surface world where I'm reading and the Justice League is getting involved. Shit just got real. |

I've seen a few of your snarky posts in other threads so I know you're a comic book elitist douche. I'm not interested in getting into a debate with you because I'm not really knowledgeable. I mentioned a few days ago that I had been reading the Injustice graphic novels but prior to that and this Aquaman run I hadn't read a comic book in probably 10 years. Anyway, the artist involved in the New 52 is Ivan Reis. He does some good work. I really love the way they draw and color Aquaman. |

-- Can't say I'm a fan of the bronze age and older stuff art either, I understand the technical limitations they had back then but I can't really go back and be wowed by anything. The earliest stuff that really struck me was probably Dave McKean, then Alex Ross or Phil Jimenez. Lots and lots of great artists today, but my favorite bosses are Frazer Irving, Frank Quitely, and J.H Williams III. Irving is by far my favorite, the shit he's able to put on a page blows my mind every time. When I read his Batman & Robin for the first time it didn't even occur to me that comics could look like that. Let's be honest, his joker is one of the creepiest: http://i.imgur.com/usaJau3.png |

I have all of those books, BTW. I remember buying that SS/Terrax book. I was like 12. |
I was always partial to Keown and McFarlane.
I think both truly hit their strides when they went to image but you could tell they were special even in their early Marvel work. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...lk2-390pic.gif http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AokkAoLjAb..._mcfarlane.jpg |
I was pleased with James Bond.
Warren Ellis is writing it...you should check it out. |
anyone pick up Monstress?
holy shit it's good |
anyone buy a lot of multiples and trade/wheel and deal?
|
nah, even though when I saw what the copy of Ms. Marvel #1 is going for there might be some wheeling/dealing in my future.

Before I die I'll have an Incredible Hulk 181... |
Yeah I'm done piling up single issues these days unless it's a series I really really really need to read ASAP. Otherwise I'll just buy (or not buy) them digitally and wait for the TPB or hardcover.

Viewcomic.com is your friend. most comic books i read on there. Also saves money.
|
Also reading dark knight return 3 very good.

DK3 won't compare to DKR, but I'm willing to not grade it on that curve since Frank already broke the "artistic integrity" seal with DK2. I just wish the art wasn't so generic that I think I actively hate it.

I do buy quite a few back issues though and I find that when my pull list was huge and I was spending $100 a month on new books I wasn't buying any back issues. I cut my pull and always try to pick up and older book every week. It's fun to build old runs ( Byrne X-men, Simonson Fantastic FOur stuff like that) |
Just finished reading SuperMan: Earth One for the first time. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Great story, and Seth Davis' work is outstanding. Do we ever find out who the person is that gave the Dherons the tech to destroy Krypton (I liked that part of the story as well. Krypton was essentially assassinated by their warring neighbor planet), and WHY he wanted Krypton and all the Kryptonians dead?

I'm not really sure who Rick and Morty are, but there has been a line of people wrapped around my building for 5 or so hours now for some event at a comic book store 2 blocks away. Has to be a thousand people lined up. I think they're heading to KC tomorrow.

Captain America went rogue and ordered a hit everyone's favorite SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson. Sounds like Phil is gonna die....

Funny as hell on a Family Guy/surface level but the more you watch the more you realize the deep arguments/philosophy/commentary they're making on life... |

I watched one video of Diversity in comics (Meyer's youtube channel) because of it's clickbait title and it was boring as shit. Just some guy with awful audio bitching about how shitty comic books are with a weird obsession with insulting women in particular. I get the feeling he's had some bitter divorces. In the case of that video, both things are true. Toxic activists are ruining a product to the point it's now 2nd to Japanese manga, and Meyer is a very sketchy dude. |
I used to watch Maeyers videos; they were good when he focused on criticizing the comics. He got sucked up into the drama and started roasting roasties that work for Marvel. he comes off as a sexist and a gay basher. I have a modicum of respect for Meyer still because he started his own comic and sold $300K worth of graphic novels. its even more impressive since he has been blacklisted by diamond distribution and his publisher.

Purchased my first comic book in 30 some years. Getting in on the Savage Avengers series. Seems like it's going to be a good mix of characters I liked as a kid.
