I just got the quest to find Nick Valentine. And just got Piper as a companion. Gonna put in some serious time this weekend.
My biggest dilemma is I want to use all the guns. I've got points in Rifleman, and I am digging most of those guns. The hunting rifle with marksman stock, short light barrel and red dot sight is a favorite. The laser rifle is wonderful. But I also kinda love a modded up 10mm pistol, but I got other places I want to put points. I can live without the automatics for the most part. They go through ammo too fast. I'm sure I'll eventually level up pistols when I get other stuff filled out. Anybody have a few favorite guns I need to try? |

I'm really frustrated by the settlement addition. I like it, but I feel like it's not very intuitive, and they didn't provide some basic tutorials for much of it.

Don't know what it is but this game just isn't that fun to me.

I'm really digging this game though. |
PornHub reports a 10% traffic drop the day Fallout 4 came out:

I haven't run into anything like that so far in 4, but who knows. |
Does anybody know if Martha's Vineyard is in the game? If not, I am thinking that is surely going to be DLC.
Edit: Comparing maps it looks like they sliced I-95 beltway around Boston and a little west and used that for the map. They are a couple areas they can use for easy DLC in MA: Martha's Vineyard Plymouth & Cape Cod Gloucester |

So, everyone settled right off the bat in Sanctuary? I did the minuteman mission, led them back to Sanctuary, dropped my power armor in a random house for storage, and set off for Diamond City. I saved up 2000 caps and bought the home plate house on Diamond City to set up my hub there (sort of like Megaton). Was this a bad strategy?

Got Preston as a buddy recently. He's not worth a shit.
I'm going back to Valentine or Dogmeat. Codsworth is ok too, especially for attack dogs and smaller critters. |

Trading is easier there and it just has that, "I'm home" feel to it. There's really no wrong way to do this. You can settle at several different places. |

I found Strong (the mutant companion) locked up at the top of the Trinity tower near Diamond City. Beware though, it's a battle to get to the top. I was level 6 when I did it. I figured out halfway up that I was too low level to be doing it. My foolish pride wouldn't let me stop, though. |
I'm at level 24ish and shit is getting real between the BOS and the Institute. Just killed a synth courser and he looked just like Sorter's Avatar.

I took down an alpha deathclaw with a nuke grenade and 8 combat shit rounds. I caught the ****er sleeping.

Don't have time to immerse myself in FO4 yet, so waiting until after the holidays but following this thread. Sounds pretty awesome so far, minus the graphics which were never a selling point for FO in the first place. Is there a consensus as to best platform? Considering a new gaming laptop.

I need to restart. Screwed up my stats. Didnt know you dont have to unlock them. I cant kill anything beyond the areas you meet the ghouls.

Just took the castle in Taking Independence. Like, what the actual **** Fallout 4?
|
So what's the word on this game?
Good? Great? OK? Meh? Bad? |

I'm just big fan of building shit. Got my settlement pretty good. Happiness is about 74%.
Running through the map. Sentry bot is a pain in the ass man. He's at the national guard area by the power suit. |

A little pointer for you all.
Boston Commons... Don't **** with the Swan unless you have your power armor on. |

Deacon is a pretty cool companion. Great for stealth based sniping characters.

I've got to bail on Strong the Mutant. I'm trying to get my stealthy ninja swag going. And he's all "Rah!! Strong wanna fight! Smash puny humans!"...charging into rooms, swinging his sledge hammer to and fro.

He also comes with a laser pistol and hunting rifle for ranged damage. |
Just did MacCready's companion request. That shit was brutal. I had to go in with a fat man and used VATS to increase accuracy and avoid self-immolation. It was fun as hell, but tough for a level 16 to get done without some firepower.

I guess I could tell them to wait somewhere, but then I'd have to run back and grab them when the firefight started. And that sucks. I'm looking forward to trying out the companion GloucesterChief mentioned. |
Deacon and Piper seem to be a lot more passive when it comes to wanting to fight.
|
Alright, I just scooped Fallout 3 from a homie.
I'm a bit drunk but I think I'm gonna fire it up tonight. Stand by.. |

Yeah, I had just left the vault before I decided to call it for the night. I can already see the similarities to Skyrim in the combat engine and what not. I'll put in some more time either tomorrow or Monday, probably. |

What are good skills and characteristics to focus on early on? I literally have no idea what will be most important at this point. IIRC, I added an additional point to strength, endurance, intelligence, charisma and agility. Also focused on medicine, sneak, and some other skill that I can't recall at the moment.. |

On every playthrough of that game, the first thing I do is go to Megaton visit Moira in the general store, and complete her wasteland survival guide mission. It will send you to a variety of places, and help you get a good feel for the game. On each part of the mission, try and do the extra optional part. It gives a better reward. |

And yeah, I've tried not to venture too far south. I saw the same message, but I saw it early on. What difficulty are you guys playing on? I got a message that said the difficulty affects the chances of legendary pickups. So, I bumped up to very hard. I tried Survival mode for a few minutes, but **** that noise. |
Quote:
Basically, I prefer to open as much of the world as possible to start. |
Quote:
I didn't even see an option to choose difficulty, so I guess I'm playing at the preset difficulty. |

The first railroad quest IIRC is Road to Freedom, you should hear about it around Diamond City and it will start out as a misc quest.
Edit: It starts at Boston Commons so you have to be sneaky. |

Got to level 20. This game is your typical addicting RPG. Very fun for my first fallout experience. Just finished the nick Valentine part and Kellogg.

I'm level 31 and I just recently saved Valentine from the vault he was being held in. I've been focusing on side missions.

It keeps saying 'press RB for VATS' in the top right corner. I press it and nothing changes.. I'll need to check out the manual to figure that out.. I also have no idea how to run LMAO |
Life got a lot easier once I put some effort into the settlements. I have supply lines chained across the waste land and a scavenging station set up at the more populated settlements. Between the farms and the scavenging stations I'm loaded with junk/mats for adhesive. I can now focus on guns/armor and ammo without having to worry as much about being weighed down.

I'm having a helluva time finding my shit.
I made a few medium generators to power that transporter at Sanctuary. After that mission, I stored them in my workshop. Went to the workshop table at sanctuary, not there. Anyone? Oh, and the damn thing has crashed on me four or five times now. I'm going to try and play offline since there's no real online component. Maybe that'll help. |
Also,
It took me for-****ing-ever to figure out the railroad mission. I refused to look it up online. If you all want to know, here:
Spoiler!

I'm up to Level 9 and took advantage of the You are Special/Dogmeat glitch to take my special points to 10s across the board.
I'm to the end of the zombie clearing mission, but am getting torn apart so I may go level up with my newfound charisma and come back with power armor for it. Oh and I'd read somewhere that you can't find legendary opponents without being at the highest level. That doesn't appear to be 100% true as I ran into a legendary goul last night. |
