The forecast seems to be improving slightly in STL, but still sucks ass in KC.

From Chiefs subreddit:
"NWS is saying pretty low risk for large ice accumulation in KC. It looks like the worst will be south of KC. With the heaviest being along I44 between Springfield and STL. Keep in mind these are probabilities." http://origin.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/pwpf...=72&ptype=icez ^ good interactive map showing percentages of ice buildup |

Not too shabby. Hopefully everyone wasn't already scared into selling their tickets and we get a good crowd for the game. |
Remember we're still at Wednesday. Lot could change in 48 hours.
Anyway, how about that ****ing 30 degree temp drop in the last 3 hours? I was ready to break out shorts. Worst temp drop I ever experienced though was sometime between Feb-April in 2009. It was a 40 something degree drop in 2-3 hours. You could look on the horizon and see black clouds bringing a huge cold front with it. Anyone remember that? |

When I was in college in Springfield in the early 90's, we had a day in November that was 70+ during the day, and by the time we got in from the bars that night, there was 4 inches of snow on the ground. |

Wasn't the biggest temp drop ever, nor the coldest game I've ever been to, but I'll never forget 12/14/08. SD vs KC, Willie Roaf was honored at halftime. It was 60 degrees in the parking lot during the tailgate and dropped into the 20's during the game.

Look up the Children's Blizzard for fun time reading.
They say the temperature dropped 100 degrees in some areas. |
NWS forecast looking pretty bleak. Sounds like the majority of the ice will be coming late Saturday and the overnight hours of Sunday morning - making travel to the game a significant issue.
Calling for anywhere from .25 to .60 of ice. |

Not gonna believe it. |

Just saw this from the NWS Kansas City...
Still early to be highly confident, but 0.25 - 0.75" possible Looking good to make it to KC Saturday now, but have no idea how we'll get to Arrowhead Sunday AM. Any suggestions? |

I also don't want to stick you with a ticket, but I'm starting to have concerns about getting there. If it hits here in STL tomorrow/Saturday, I'm not even sure trains would leave the station - and that's if I can even get to the station. Let's take a look at the forecast again tonight and tomorrow AM and I'll make a decision. Any word on Sunday night? Text me. |

Both would be suckledge ways to die. Kansas ice makes travel dangerous obviously. I've seen the heat wave make tires stick to asphalt or the oils in roads can make them slick too. Kansas is extremely hot summer & can get extremely cold winters. During fall it can be 80 one day and 30 the next. Kansas can drop 50 degrees in a day. ****ing crazy weather we have. |

Hope the power stays on.

The joke is if you don't like Kansas weather wait a day. |
This year we haven't even had enough snow to build a snowman. Weak sauce winter.
I like to bbq more when there is snow on the ground during winter months than in summer when it's hot. You can cook an egg with tinfoil on the hood of a car. |

If there's two inches of Ice the city will have no power to air the game, Right?

Around here one thing that happened after the big ice storms of 2008 and 2009 was they trimmed the absolute shit out of all the trees near power lines. If they did a good enough job keeping up on tree trimming it should minimize the issues. |

If it hits the (maximum) 1 inch of ice I'll lose 3/4ths of 2 weeks pay and likely have the neighbors tree crash on my home (which I've been told is an "act of God" and not covered by his insurance.)

Any thoughts on the potential ice storm this weekend?

The act of god crap is such bs. Hail is an act of god too. |
I rented an SUV for this weekend but really clueless about if getting a taxi is the best way to get into Arrowhead Sunday morning. I plan on leaving by 8 am.

Saw a few people mention the crazy temp drops they've experienced. Being from the midwest, I've experienced a few. The worst one for me though, me and my old roommate were gonna take the bikes out because we woke up and it was 60 degrees in January. We knew it wasn't supposed to last all day, but we wanted to get some ride time in. We took off from the house where it was over 60 F. We rode for a short time, and stopped at Gates to grab some lunch. In the hour we were inside eating, the temperature dropped from low 60s to upper 20s. It was so cold when I tried to start my bike, she said **** you, and wouldn't fire up. Had to pop the clutch to get her fired up. I had all my leather with me, and so did my buddy, but his ol lady was wearing a pair of yoga pants, and a leather jacket... By the time we got back to the house, we had to help her off the bike because her legs had gone numb. She compared it to sitting on the toilet too long, only worse. That one experience has made me paranoid, and I almost always have an entire saddle bag dedicated to layers I can throw on in case I get caught again. I have long underwear, top and bottoms, extra gloves, a scarf and a neoprene facemask. I take it out over the summer, because we won't need them obviously, but if there's a chance the temp can drop, that stuff is with me. |

Ten years ago today, we had "the ice storm" that knocked power out nearly citywide for about a week (some longer and some not as long). A lot of people are freaking out over this one by comparing it to the one ten years ago. While I'm going to hate it, I'm sure it won't be nearly as bad as everyone is freaking out over (knock on wood).

High temp in Joplin for Sunday is now 60 degrees. WTF?

Lots of unsold tickets were listed today...
on ticketmaster in the lower level and upper level. Yesterday there was only the over priced Club Level seats and a few in the upper level. Did this weather system that is approaching have anything to do with this? I think so. Some of the Lower Level seats were front row. Are people turning there tickets back in because of this ice storm?
|
Ice is the worst. For sitting at the game, the rain hits you, you get wet, and then it freezes to you like a bomb pop. If it's just rain, that's not terrible, even snow is OK. But freezing rain and ice is just the worst. I shudder to think how many car accidents there'll be if it's a half inch of ice.

Low on Sunday says 36. Can an ice storm really be a factor?

If it's above 32 at all, there won't be ice. The problem is it won't be 36 til up in the afternoon likely.
