But tonight, I just wanna be a homer I guess. :(

Duffy freaking out on Twitter...

I feel bad for him...but the Royals must trade him if they get a legit haul.

That said he re-signed at a discount basically and gave Royals a cheap season this season...kindve be shitty that they trade him. As I heard from passan though you don't have to have 1-3 guys to carry the culture.

In a parallel universe, he doesn't get the DUI, we re-sign Hosmer and keep Duffy and we go for a run while rebuilding. Unfortunately, it's like trying to lose weight while gaining muscle and we just tread water for years.

In this universe, Duffy's DUI gives GMDM the ability to not see Duffy as the golden child, so he DOES trade him, lets all the free agents walk and trades other players too. In 5 years, the Royals are back in it, and we sign Duffy for a 3 year, 35 million dollar deal as our 4th starter and we make the playoffs 3 years in a row.

The fact that they made the playoffs 25 years in a row and drafting low every year probably has more to do with it than what you suggested.

Ain't about the DUI, it's the elbow. He had TJ in June 2012, and the average recurrence is 4.97 years later. He just passed that date.

His 5/65 was heavily backloaded too. He got 5 this year, with 4/60 left. Given his TJ risk and heavy salary, he's a great bet to be dead money in the future.

Sure-Oz 12-13-2017 08:45 PM

@FlannyMLB: The Royals will pick 15th instead of 18th in the Rule 5 draft tomorrow morning because three teams in front of them are maxed out on the 40-man roster. Dayton Moore said they are definitely considering a Rule 5 pick but still might not see someone good enough to make a pick.

I didn't realize he torched the PCL as badly as he did. Some very encouraging signs across the board there and he's had some periods of success at the major league level.

Gotta just stick his ass in RF and have him sink or swim at this point. I think he swims. There will always be holes in his swing but I saw him pull his hands in and punish some inside pitches with the Cubs so he's not completely helpless in that regard. That guy scared the hell out of me as a long-term asset for CHC.

I still think he'll be a good run producer.

Sure-Oz 12-14-2017 11:40 AM

@JonHeyman: Jays have interest in Lorenzo Cain. They’re believed to prefer a four-year deal. However he’s thought to have strong market.

@JonHeyman: Padres feeling slightly better lately about their chances with Hosmer. Their visit went well, they made an offer and see a real fit even if they’re a year away due to his youth. Kc, possibly Boston (tho they may go for jd) are other threats.

If anything, the last run showed what happens when the Royals are relevant. I don't think they need to prove anything to get a vastly superior TV deal.

And really, if they're going to dump and build, just do it. Bringing back Hosmer at that point makes no sense. And I suspect Hoz would prefer a different situation at that point.

I'm not mad about it, I'm grateful. It's been a fun run. I get the realities of it. Embrace it wholeheartedly and do it right.

I think Mondesi has looked lost at the plate at the MLB level, much worse than Escobar, but he's only 22. He has a long long way to go before I'd start freaking out. He's still several years from his prime.

dallaschiefsfan 12-14-2017 07:21 PM

Mondesi will struggle at the plate this year...but he will be statistically better than Escobar in nearly every way. Not hard to do, but at least it's a position where we'll likely see an upgrade. I think DJLN mentioned Soler in RF. He's more likely to see action in LF. Boni is clearly more comfortable in RF and seemed to progress defensively last year. Gordon will see a few at-bats a week in CF and probably a game or two on the bench or at DH. Soler will DH as well, I'm guessing - especially if Hosmer is not retained - Moss will see more time at 1B if Hoz is not on the roster.

The Duffy stuff hurts to read. I’m not endorsing the trade when I say GMDM is more likely to move him after the DUI, but I think it’s just how it is .

GMDM is the type of god fearin’ man who linked pornography to domestic violence. He also has a history of cutting and trading players after DUI’s (even heartthrob favorites such as Kyle Davies) GMDM seemed a special kind of pissed off and betrayed after that press conference.

If the DUI doesn’t happen, I at least wonder if Duffy would be off the table like Sal has seemed to be so far this offseason.

Hosmer Moustakas and Escobar all to San Diego!

duncan_idaho 12-15-2017 01:05 PM

Couple of big pieces off the board there.

If Hosmer really wants to win right away, I think he's going to end up in Boston.

Cozart is a really nice add for the Angels. That IF D is going to be insane. Crazy range.

So where are the most likely places for Moose to land if he doesn't re-sign?

CaliforniaChief 12-15-2017 02:21 PM

I think the Mets will go after Moose. Heck, they could use Hoz and LoCain too.

You lose your first if you sign a free agent who declined a qualifying offer, right? What if you sign three or.four, you lose more rounds of draft picks?

Gotta just stick his ass in RF and have him sink or swim at this point. I think he swims. There will always be holes in his swing but I saw him pull his hands in and punish some inside pitches with the Cubs so he's not completely helpless in that regard. That guy scared the hell out of me as a long-term asset for CHC.

I still think he'll be a good run producer.

Soler is talented..he never got consistent playing time in Chicago, and when he did he played well. Lot of upside

Preston Tucker got DFA'd by Houston

As a Cards fan I'd like to have him as a lefty stick with some power off the bench but if Solar can't get the defense figured out and has to DH, the Royals could find a lot of at-bats for him in RF I would think.

Hard to get consistent playing time when you are injured all the time.

No Hosmer for the Red Sox.

This is going to be bullshit if these guys don't get their $50 million + contracts.

Buehler445 12-18-2017 03:16 PM

Some of these fools are going to feel real dumb not signing Hosmer.

We just resign them at that point, right?

ChiefsCountry 12-18-2017 03:22 PM

Hosmer is going to be a Royal like I have said along.
